Question: wasn’t Monica’s apartment left from her grandmother? Why is she stressed about the rent. In the episode where she meets Joey and he comes over for “lemonade “ she yells him “ I have this apartment from my grandmother, otherwise O could never afford such a place” and now she tells Ross she is stressed about making rent. It was clear that Judy treated Monica the same way that her own mother treated her, yet she was apparently oblivious, which is true in many abusive families.

Judy was the worst parent in the entire show, even including Rachel's dad. At least Monica grew more confident, and learned to break the cycle of abuse.
