Did you just snug the dipstick tube into the transmission and then tighten the bolt to the engine block? Or is there something that locks the tube into the transmission.
@aterack833
@aterack833 Жыл бұрын
Just the friction or pressure of the rubber seal that’s in the transmission, that’s all that holds it in that end, the large bolt on the engine is the only actual fastener that holds it

Purge the filter from the top, use a hose if you can, and if the pump was a cheapy one it may just not work, if you can reach the solenoid on top (big round thing) and unplug it and spin it free, then you can purge the air from there to the pump, then install that again and plug it in and pressurize the system, then use a 5/8 or 3/4 (I forget, it’s been a while) wrench to loosen the lines to the injectors one at a time and crank it for about 10-15 seconds or less if it starts to slow down, then prime the pump again to pressurize it and do another 10-15 seconds, do that for each injector then tighten them all up, also make sure you hear the pump when you prime it and that your using the jump wire and not just turning the key on and off, because it takes like 20 seconds to a minute of running the pump to really prime it

Light too long of a story, essentially I drive a broken screw into my hand during testing because I didn’t have the vice grips tight enough and didn’t expect it to slip there when I was applying a low torque (with an impact driver mind you). the reason for testing was of course because you can never trust cheap eBay items, especially ones from China, and lately items have been saying they ship from one place but then when you buy them it says item location:China

I have the same engine in my 94. It didn't like the cold either. That clicking is the glow plug relay and if its doing that then you are in good shape. My issue was the fuel shut off solenoid. I used a jumper wire and went from BATT + to the + on injector pump. You will hear a click and you are ready to go. These engine are pretty much bullet proof but have a few issues with the fuel delivery system. Or its glow plugs.

the clicking sound is the glow plug relay. change that and you should start unless you need glow plugs too.
@tech9494

Pull the glow plugs out one at a time and prop it up so that the glow metal is not touching anything. With the glow plug hooked to the harness turn the key to on. In a couple seconds it should start to glow. Look for differences in behavior between glow plugs. Glow plugs can be individually checked by hooking test wires from the battery to them. They should "glow". The other glow plug system component is the controller. Several people have bypassed it and used a momentary switch to glow the plugs.

There are a lot of idiot commenting on this video. You so called "mechanics" are just repeating the same bullshit you heard from another idiot. The only thing you could pick out of this video was that he used ether? I am a diesel technician, not a mechanic which is a glorified parts changer, but a technician which means I can diagnose problems and fix them. I am not defending the guy in this video because he is obviously a dumb ass but most of you don't have a fucking clue what you are talking about. You cant use ether on a diesel eh? I have seen numerous diesels with ether start assist systems and they run just damn fine. Not just on old shit either, try a 2015 International Prostar with a Cummins ISX 15. This poor guy probably got duped into replacing all that shit because he listened to a "mechanic" and did not consult a technician who actually knows how to troubleshoot problems instead of easter egging and getting lucky on a fix eventually. To the guy in the video, where the f is your harmonic balancer, water pump, etc? You sir are a dumbass and should not touch a wrench again.
@aterack833
@aterack833 9 жыл бұрын
if you noticed the engine ran for 2 seconds by my hand, i knew of the dangers of running without a harmonic balancer and even when my dad ran it it was for 10 seconds and as far as how i speak i was just 17 at the time, i know that running without the balancer can damage it but so can using the wrong tools to install it, we still ended up having to use a block of wood and a mallet to tap it on and use the bolt the rest of the way because nowhere within 250km had the tool for installing it, as for the glow plugs ive changed them many times but now just this year was able to afford new ones (all parts were junkyard parts previously) and now it doesn't click... at all, its blown from the amp draw so i wired in a toggle switch and copied the light, even now it takes 1 or 2 8 second cranks to get it ready to fire up, we have brand new plugs and fuel pump and fuel filter now, im most certain that this may be the rings at fault seeing as the dirt was awful and the gaskets were chewed up, why waste money on gaskets for a water pump when the head gaskets were free and came with the truck, and may not have been the issue, prior to this video we dispensed 5 starters 3 used but in good shape from running vehicles,one rebuilt and one brand new. since the video we have went through a re-manufactured one and 2 used ones one of witch was of questionable quality, if we used brand new parts of paid more than 90 bucks for an injection pump you could say we where stupid, but at the time we needed a pump a filter a ip and injectors at least as the sand got that far, but after a compression test revealing 200psi as the highest and the rest falling below 100psi it was obvious the compression had faulted. we have since upgraded to a light starting fluid that contains no either and therefore does not expire (if you used it as often as we did for this beast you would know that it looses its potency after a short period) this new fluid even has lubricants in it for those dry starts, even with either we need to use glow plugs, with 8 working plugs we need either and with 3 we need almost as much as in this video, with them unplugged we cant start it with any amount of either and thats disconnected from the plugs themselves. we also have new batteries now too and can crank it for 20 seconds a set and 15 sets before it slows down, on days where the heat is unbearable we can start without ether after 7 tries at starting all using 25 second glow cycles, we tried shorter cycles to no avail. we also have a 12volt assist pump on the frame, fuel gets there and is filtered the glowplugs work and are being used, the batteries have more than enough juice and there is just enough compression, the only things that could be done to better this engine are a brand new or professionally rebuilt injection pump and injectors, new rings and cylinder honing/ridge reaming (with new gaskets to re assemble of course) and possibly a new starter. with all of that (that we could never afford) it will start like our other truck, of course replacing the glowplug controller would eliminate the guess work and chance for human error.

I totally agree with csxgk94. You could have taken it to somebody that knew what they were doing and spent less money. That being said I only watched 30 seconds of your video, however I did notice your volt gauge jumping in time with the clicking. I would probably start testing the glow plug system, starting with the most commonly replaced part on the 7.3L GLOW PLUG RELAY, they even make a clicking sound, quite the coincidence. Test the resistance of the glow plugs (and the systems circuits for a short circuit to ground because obviously it is drawing significant amperage) and compare to the specs from ford.
@aterack833
@aterack833 9 жыл бұрын
less money? we spent 180 in parts and bought 2 tubes of silicone, the tow to a real mechanic would be upwards of 250 in our area, i know were the clicking comes from, i needed to know why, coincidence no i know they click what i was asking is why the pulse jackass, ive tested the ohms and they are within spec, and the new plugs are new, only got 1 bad on in the set, the glow system is fine its the relay, my dad thinks its supposed to do that and swapped a working one out just so it pulsed, again not me.

ether is extremely violent in a motor,esp,a diesel,been working on various diesels and gas motors for 45 years,best aromatic liquid to jump start a diesel in very cold weather is coleman lantern fuel in a old fashioned oil squirt can and it don't take much,this will keep the engine from grenading, unfortunately you have to use a light fuel when its ultra cold ,haven't lost a motor or blown a head off yet,why the hell are you starting a very expensive motor without a harmonic dampner,it's a wonder you didn't break a crank,good luck

Due to Excessive Ether use you may have already cooked the Rings, Head Gaskets or you may have the Injector pump not timed right. If it is not timed right it is trying to inject fuel at the wrong time and it will be VERY hard to start if at all. Think of the injector pump on a Diesel like you would a Distributor in a gas engine. Also check that the Lift pump on the passengers front side of the block is getting fuel to the injector pump. If it has died No Start.
@aterack833
@aterack833 Жыл бұрын
It had no functional glow plugs left at some point so the ether was likely necessary, and we changed the pump a few times after because of multiple failures
