I often return to this song, for many reasons. For me, it evokes something lost but not forgotten, a love or perhaps even a life. I can hear it playing while I take a long walk on this moonlit beach, as I walk the road between the heavens and the earth, reminiscing about what now all feels like a dream--the sound of leaves bristling against the wind, the hours gone by at ice cream shops with people whose faces are now the memories I call home. Birthday parties, sunset drives, shaded glances across the dinner table. It all comes back to me. Today, back in my cozy room in the place I will always call home, I listen to this song to guide me to my next steps. Oddly enough, listening to this song, my career path becomes clearer as it simultaneously begins to feel smaller and more insignificant. Perhaps this is because the weight of everything feels lighter when I listen to this song. The world fades away. I am left with my memories. I know they were not all pretty, but I cannot seem to remember the parts that were so hard. I want to tell love stories. That is what I want to spend my life doing. I want to help people, young people specifically, tell the stories of the people they love and the people who love them. I want to listen to their stories and share their stories. Friends, lovers, families, teachers... all the people who touched them and how we can sustain and practice and respect the love that we have for each other. The love that saves us, the love that shapes who we are, the love that makes us and pushes us forward. In the end, on our moonlit walk, that is all we have.
