Hitting the barrel with a hammer like that won't help the accuracy and why didn't you soak the whole thing in oil and let it soak? you would make the job so much easier.

Never ever heat a spring up. It will take the value of the spring tension away.you will be slaming that bolt back to the point you will wished you replaced them.

electrolysis is cool looking and effective but please never fire a weapon that has been through this process. particularly the barrel. iron is subject to hydrogen embrittlement that does all kinds of scary blowing up, bulging, dangerous kind of stuff. either boil with water and card off the rust deposits or use a gentle acid solution such as dilute citric or acetic acid followed by carding with very fine brass wheel or 0000 steel wool. stay safe.

Before scraping rust and dirt from the metal, spray or brush on some oil and leave it for a few minutes to soak in, it loosens the rust which can then be removed more easily. It also helps keep dust down and lubricates the metal surface so it picks up fewer scratches as you scrape.
