Marvellous sound, well registered and excellent tempi. Maybe some more articulation in the prelude and terracing dynamics might bring out the majesty of this piece; then in the fugue the same can apply especially in the solo manual sections. But over all a steady and convincing performance 😊

Great addition for the Vigil and the arrangement is superb. The Schola singers are masters of this music - it is great when traditional chants can have new life with modern arrangements and interpretations. I will keep this in mind for next year. Thank you, Aidan.

Thanks for the history, and the background information. I saw there you had a pliers with a groove there near the tip. Did you make that part of the tool or did you buy it that way? The only ones I have bought were former long nose pliers and then don't have the strength, but they do work to fix the end of the track so the pins fit well. As for your track cleaning, just be aware many of the older and some modern Lionel use magnetic wheels on the engine or have DC can motors in the power trucks. They will pick up any metal particles and get into the gears and the motors and ruin them quickly. The better cleaner to use is scotch brite and pads like them that are not metal, and then vacuum up or wipe up well any cleaning residue..
@aidan-hill5 ай бұрын
Thanks a bunch for the tips on track cleaning! Hadn’t thought about the danger of little metal bits getting caught up…as for the pliers, they did indeed come with that little notch in them.

This is very nice. Thank you for sharing this music. It is rare to hear a modern recording of this method - such a treat. Is the choir singing tone 7?
@aidan-hill5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Rare indeed...what's amazing is that it's a relatively easy way to include a quick "motet" at a Mass if needed: pick a chant hymn, and improvise some little versets between, or use existing ones like this and piece something together. And - I think it appropriately preserves this method of alternatim, not fossilizing it in the Baroque period. As for the tone - it's tone 1D, which includes the little descending figure at the end.

Thank you so much for responding so promptly, Aidan. I am thinking of doing this at my Advent Organ Series (it is rather long for Lessons and Carols). I am familiar with Organ and Chant from my studies of Tallis but I have heard one performed. I am lucky to have a group of music enthusiasts who like to learn about how pieces were authentically performed and the history of composers and their works - or, at least, they indulge my interests. I am enjoying your music very much and I thank you for your generous spirit in sharing your gift. All the best.
