Not bad. It's a little bland and the thick, polished bezel makes it look kind of plasticky and cheap.
@Andy_TheGreat7 сағат бұрын
The design could be significantly improved. Currently, there is an excessive amount of visible Velcro, which is both unnecessary and prone to attracting dust and debris. Additionally, the strap appears to be quite thick. While thickness is generally a positive feature for durability, in this case, it not only likely requires the removal of the spring bars for installation, reducing practicality, but it also causes the watch to sit taller on the wrist. This is particularly problematic for tool watches, which already tend to have thick cases. The added height from the strap makes the watch appear awkward and unbalanced on the wrist. If the surplus Velcro were reduced and the strap were made thinner, it would enhance both its functionality and overall appeal, aligning better with the needs of tool watch users.

What seems fascinating to me is that Mark features all the cool new microbrand releases way before than any other KZbinrs and covers more microbrand reviews than other channels as well. That's incredible, for example, I couldn't find any other review for the Raven Trailtrekker Vintage Blue when Mark featured it on his channel first- that's a big contribution to the average viewers like me in the watch community so thanks to you, Mark!

Total watch noob here. Does that coating wear off after a few years or anything? Serious question. Sorry if it sounds very uninformed.
@AverageBros3 күн бұрын
No problem, with hard enough wear, yes, it can potentially be worn away in some spots, but it would take a deliberate effort to remove the coating completely, which I've never seen anyone done before. Worst case scenario, you have a lighter spot without the coating and best case, it just protects superficial scuffs and keeps looking pretty great for a very long time. I have a few older models with this coating, and they've held up great over the years.

I have 5.5in wrists, and I was worried this watch wouldn't fit right as I kept hearing that I should target a 36mm and below for a great fit, but I took the risk and bought one anyway. And let me tell you, the lug-to-lug on this thing is perfection it sits perfectly on my wrist with no overhang at all.
@khronokraze4 күн бұрын
Neat. I was trying to figure out how did they subdivide the hours functionality? Basically, if I did the math in my head right, I think they're using a 24hr movement and basically doubling it on the dial. Meaning one half of the dial is 24 hrs, and the other half is another 24 hrs. I know, that's weird. But, because they are using a hand that is split up into 3s, that is how you can read the scale across the top. Ex, if u start at 12am, it goes to 6 am in the middle, then 12 pm at the far end. Then, the other hand picks up at the 12 back on the opposite side which now becomes 12 pm, then it'll be 6 pm in the middle, then back to 12am at the far end. ** Nevermind.. that doesnt work out having 2x 24 hrs as i originally stated near the top. Anyways, i guess some custom movement going on here to display the time the way it does.

@AverageBros This is more disappointment than hate. What Seiko did to one of my favorite watches is pathetic. Just like all of their new releases in 2024.
@AverageBros4 күн бұрын
@@maitrehg I never said anything about hate. They still sell the SLA021, so I'm not sure why you're taking it as a personal attack against your individual preferences. There were a ton of aspects that prevented me from ever buying a "traditional" MM300 but I never felt like it was Seiko ruining anything for me. To me, this is the best MM300 they've made but if they come out with updates in the future, I have this, so I wouldn't be bothered by them exploring additional changes. I might be bothered if they offered a "better" MM300 for less, like a 5Hz Hi-Beat or something tighter regulated out-of-box, maybe a framed date window at 3 o'clock. But yeah, if they made another one, I liked less than the SLA079, why would I let that upset me?
@maitrehg4 күн бұрын
@@AverageBros Many are predicting that this new watch will eventually replace the real MM300. I still can't believe that Seiko has abandoned the monobloc case that has been the signature element of this design since its inception in the 60s. Add to that the lack of on the fly micro adjust on the clasp, a messed up textured dial, a poorly positioned date, and a non-ceramic bezel, and you have the basis of my disappointment. Also, Seiko is now putting the Marinemaster name on anything like a 62MAS 200M.
@AverageBros4 күн бұрын
@@maitrehg If the older MM300 was selling well enough they'd keep making it, also there've been iterations in production since the early 2000's, so there's plenty of units available for you to choose from, if you favor those. The monobloc case simply isn't required anymore to achieve 300m WR and it only increases both production cost for the brand as well as maintenance cost for owners. Also, it's caused the watches to be too thick for even many modern wrists. Even the Spring Drive SNR029 has a normal case back, I don't recall many losing sleep over that either. The other details you mentioned are really just subjective matters of taste. As for a non-ceramic bezel, the best generations of the MM300 didn't have ceramic bezel inserts anyway, hell some didn't even have sapphire. Same for on-the-fly micro-adjust, MM300 has had a ratcheting diver's extension, not on-the-fly micro-adjust, it's been using manual holes for micro-adjustment. They also had overly long links that combined with the overly thick, top-heavy case profile contributed to wearability issues for many. As for their use of the Marinemaster name, the first Marinemaster had nothing to do with their vintage 6159 diver. It was a titanium quartz chronograph, so even from a purist perspective, it doesn't make sense to be so upset, even during the MM300's original heyday there were Marinemaster branded Tuna's that didn't offend anyone. At the end of the day, it's just a new watch, you don't have to like it, but you don't have to take offense to its very existence either, ya know? Just because you don't personally like something, doesn't make it objectively bad.
