It really is a nice truck! I have a 2000 Astro and a 1994 Caprice with the lt1. The Astro is quite capable off-road with some tires believe it or not. The 4.3 in mine is newer since it had SCPI fuel injection but I replaced it with MPFI spider along with many other items. I had a similar issue with trying to figure out a check engine light in my Caprice until I found out it was obd1.5 as well. I downloaded some diagnostic software called Freescan onto my computer and bought a cable to hook up to the car. I found out the purge valve was the reason for the light and finally fixed it. I really do love the analog feeling of both of them especially having a throttle cable lol. Great video!

Sure, I'll get some Hate... but what I say is very true... Why does a "Car enthusiast" Car have to be gas powered? You just said it yourself, you like to drive, ok, well, in your price range you can get a Used Tesla Model 3 Performance, very inexpensive, and the same speed or faster than all the supercars you are naming and lusting after. It will drift on command, do 1/4 mile in under 12 seconds, and its AWD when you want also, so, following EV's, theres the Rivian R3x coming out soon, the Alpine a110 coupe EV coming out soon, then theres already the RWD or AWD Hyundai Ioniq 5 / Kia Ev6, you must admit they both look sick, and tons of other cool "Middle Class enthusiast cars" Personally I am GLAD They dont make anymore gas powered "enthusiast" cars, makes the EV's even more awesome! These and many other vehicles will be the new Middle class enthusiast cars, theres just no need to upgrade the horsepower if its already a sub 12 sec car, so you can focus on aesthetics. Wait and see when all the guys buy the v6 powered new Chargers and the EV version blows their doors off, people will be having fits everywhere, EV's are where its at, and for the Haters, just hear this out.. All the Performance of a high-powered gas car, without the complexities, or blown turbos, or blown bottom end, or hole in block, AND you can drive for pennies on the dollar, instead of buying Premium gas.. I am sad theres Haters out there but all of what I said is not wrong.

From headlights, engine, HD Tranny, brake lines, bumper to bumper like new, no rust, dents, wrecks, etc. Strong 4.3 Vortec Not a single rip in seats & not a single person had ever sat in the rear. Honestly the mini trucks of the 90's IMO are the pinnacle. No frills but they have the basic necessities can do some reasonable hauling for the average person and still get respectable fuel economy. Had a 2wd 5speed I daily drove in highschool. Sold it, regretted it and bought a 4wd 5speed with a blown motor. Has a little flatbed on should be really nice to haul bikes and what not. I was going to look into TDI swapping it but the LS swap looks much easier and economical.

Not done watching so I don't know if you mention this but so many people I know fall for the 80 month loan trap and don't relize that at the rate their paying off the car the car will pretty rapidly be worth way less than the loan. And when they go to sell that car they'll be screwed as they won't get enough back to finish paying off the loan. Honestly my bar is if I can't do a 48month loan at the top end of my budget (450-525'ish a month) its too high a price.

I know you're probably not looking for a new purchase anymore, but the new Z is a pretty incredible value. Upper end Miata money gets you in a base spec, and the loaded spec is just a few thousand more if you're okay with one of the more abundant colors. It's about $1000 or less to ship into WA from pretty much anywhere in the country. Might be worth considering if you still want to scratch the speed itch.

I think I'd need to earn about $200k to comfortably afford a $70k car. After taxes, 10% on housing (your rule), and maxing retirement savings, that still leaves some room for other important stuff. But I wouldn't buy a $70k car. I'd rather have two $35k cars. Or three $23k cars, even if I pay for the extra space to store them all. I find that one of two things happens as a car becomes more expensive: either it becomes so compromised by trying to do everything that it doesn't do anything particularly well, or it becomes so specialized that it can only do one thing well and absolutely nothing else. Take the M2, for example. To meet the brief for a car that's both luxurious and very fast, it ends up being tremendously numb to drive at street-legal speeds and difficult to park (especially in a city, owing to its width and poor visibility). Unless your use case lets you avoid those things most of the time, you're just throwing your money away while not having a lot of fun (either by not using it at all or using it anyway and having a boring/frustrating time). Having multiple cars for the same amount of money lets you pick the traits you want to optimize for in each car. And they can all be completely different! (As you know, since you have three different cars.) You can upgrade the traits in your "fleet"--or even change them out entirely--whenever you want to, and you get to keep the traits you like. As a person who gets bored of the same flavor very easily, this is the most fun way I know to enjoy cars. Money is important, of course, but I think conversations like this often gloss over "fun" in the name of value, performance, etc. Spending less money to have the same fun is good. Spending the same money to have _more_ fun might be even better. These are toy cars, after all, not just tools. They bring us joy. More joy is rarely a bad thing.

I've bought my bj 323 for just 2000 bucks last year and my rust-free mx5 for 4500 back in 2019. I'm too anal about getting paint and bare-metal-deep scratches on a brand new car (bc of corrosion) so if I ever got new car I would only drive it on sunny days with no road salt. Now though, my mx5 is back in japan for restoration by Mazda, I'm never driving it on rainy or salty roads. Yeah, even on engineering pay it's not much nowadays. @@jershinator13 That's true. They're not the most common, but townhomes with garages do exist. A friend in Mill Creek has one and it's pretty sweet. Speaking of rent, I heard this today, which I thought was interesting: "rent is the most you'll pay per month; a mortgage is the least you'll pay." Point being that the additional costs of owning a house (vs. a unit) are often overlooked. Anyway, just food for thought.

Over Christmas I bought a 2017 S3 with all the trimmings. Was ahead on my mortgage so I had the money available, and it ticked all the boxes as well as being kinda flash. I think the "middle class car guy" is buying really nice, low mileage used cars that some other loser has paid all the depreciation on. Adding power here, a limited-slip differential there, doing all their own maintenance. You REALLY don't need to spend a lot of money to have a car powerful enough to get you into trouble if you're willing to crawl under the bonnet.

Dude when did you come to the idea that you an engineer. What kind you don't say. Could have a movie star car. This is the problem you want to be an enthusiast with a regular guy job. Maybe you should put KZbin down and join the rest of humanity in the real world. Nobody buy pro athletes, investment banker and showbiz folks have ever owned a 6 figure car at 30. Even that cool shot of you dad from the 1960's in a Porsche isn't as it seems. In the old days nobody bought a used sports car. Trust me that photo of your dad is maybe the second used car he bought. Yeah you can aspire to a new whatever but reality has always been regular people don't have $150,000 cars. And those who do usually have them tied to there business and are leased. This is why grown ups hate your generation. You want the first house to be a half million dollar crib. You want a ballers car and cloths and vacations but you don't ball. Just grow up. Dude I am friends with a bunch of engineers and depending on what part of America they live in they will never own a that type of car. You want a Porsche. Buy one used. Dude I think I know what you make and you will never reasonably be able to make payment for ownership on a hundred grand car and seem like a responsible adult. Stop whining. It wasn't better in my day. Dropping what my friend dropped on a 911 in 1993 was just crazy. Yes things are more expensive. But he was out of his mind. If he bought the used 1987 Ferrari 380 for 17 grand he would have been in worse shape. Look just because you make six figures and went to college and are doing better than most people doesn't mean you get to live life like a show on Netflix. Welcome to reality being an adult is full of disappointment.

I think a huge reason why a lot us of feel like we can afford something is because people literally live paycheck to paycheck. I could go buy an M2 today just like you but the payment is just not worth it. I own a 2008 Mercedes E63 AMG (paid $11.8k for) and it scratches the itch I need right now. Wife and I just bought a house and I was so excited to put a nice newer sports car in the garage but we spend $2700 on a mortgage alone. Another $800 for my wife's Honda. I drive a 28 year old Buick that I paid $2500 8 years ago. I think the most viable move for most people is to buy a very cheap but reliable and fuel efficient daily driver, like an old Buick, Lexus, Honda or Toyota. I'm partial to Buick because you can get them for so cheap and with low miles. Or just get a truck if you don't care that much about fuel efficiency. Then once that's paid off I would work on buying a used vehicle. Luxury cars are great because of depreciation. My e63 was $90,000 brand new. I paid a tenth of that. In this day and age I wouldn't buy a new sports car unless I had our house almost paid off, or was able to refinance with a much, much lower payment.
