Really? I've been doing the steps wrong lol, I always make sure the foot screws are in the center of travel, but I don't touch them until the very end after my rough leveling

Use black markers and long level. Write all out prior to shooting. Black lines disappear and you have level writing.

I built my own light board and cleaning it is impossible. I use the correct neon markers but it has just become white upon cleaning it. It’s a disaster. I have tried everything. Any ideas?

Use a confidence monitor that you can see yourself in real-time. Software like OBS or XSplit can flip it in real-time, which also lets you do Zoom meetings with students. The trick is to use a polarizing filter on the Camera to eliminate the reflected glare of the confidence monitor. You can also have multiple monitors that can also show you notes.

That must be liquid chalk.. since it has that iron ball clicking sound.. Expo neon is a bit bolder plus smoother , but more expensive. Sad that there are not many options for neon markers

great tips, thank you. I recommend that you use a squeegee to clean the board. This is critical if you end up using Plexi Glass (not recommended due to ease of scratching including just using an eraser) vs Iron Free Glass.

Le sigh, you forgot to include checking/averaging the wander of your laser plummet (Ive NEVER had a perfect plummet...used many machines). Do this by rotating the machine and watching the laser as you rotate. Good wander is less than a hundreth. Bad wander, you may be averaging 5 hundreths of error. At this point, you NEED calibration. As unless your firm is localizing large projects...you may end up with over a tenth...maybe two at the end of your traverse. Also, the recentering after you rough level is backwards, and unneccessary. Instead level your instrument, then move your leveled instrument over the point, spin it again (to average your wander)...then relevel. Centering it over the point just wastes time, and youll get a feel for if you are too far out for your set of legs and have to reposition. Ive seen vids that say a good setup should take 15 minutes plus. I average about 45 seconds. More for control, as you want that especially tight. Especially with a topcon like the one hes using. Friggin love those things, theyll shoot even when you cant SEE the prism thru cedar and such. And as long as its not control...accuracy is pretty close, topos are especially easy with the ol topcons.

Tilt setup can work two ways. I choose to line mine up over a single post. You can do it over the front two as well. X and y are just your vertical plane. So if you point the side of the gun toward a single post, the other two will control your x...and x will ALWAYS change y. If you position it as he did in the first plane level, ofer the front two posts, x will be independent, and y will always change x. Whichever way you do it, one will only slightly change the other (x changes y, but y doesnt change x much...in my first example, where you point the side of the machine toward a single post), and the other will DRASTICALLY change the other. You are essentially leveling the way he does, but digitally. So turn the side of your instrument to a single post, and do X BEFORE Y. Get your x good (within 5 secish if you arent doing rocket surgery)... Then focus on y. Get them both within 5 secs of 0...then do the same as with the other gun, check plummet position and average wander. Relevel. Now, at the end, you are going to want to flip it 180 degrees. See what that says. Unless you are out 10 sec id honestly roll with 30 sec unless im doing something EXTREMELY PRECISE)...you should just roll with it...if you are out more than that...until you can get it recalibrated, you can just average the error on both sides of the 180, and you should be good enuf.

I forgot to add, you must rough level it before it even shows how far you are out. And after, make sure to turn the laser off and go back to the main screen on ur gun (or the dc wont communicate with it).

At tilt screen, L-on is i think the function that turns your plummet on initially. It varies. You might have to hit alt f3, as he did, to turn ur plummet on. If you have an optical plummet...well, thats a whole nother can of worms.
