If I’m not correct, shouldn’t your fucking car be running before you check the transmission fluid kind of weird to me

To anyone watching this, buy a shock absorber nut tool, it’ll help with those nuts at the top of the shock inside the car, it’s designed to keep it from spinning while you’re tightening the nut

So you're only changing 3 of the 10 quarts it holds, as oil in the torque converter is not being drained?

Please show the location of the filling hole for the long funnel. I am a newbie to Toyota automatics and run a 2004 Yaris Verso -- ideal for people with disabilities like I have now in old age. I am a retired doctor. WHY are MPV's not made any more? That is a general question to readers of your superb site. When VW forced Skoda to dump the Yeti after just 4 years in production we lost a great car in Europe but the Yaris Verso was superior in many ways and maybe should be revived as a hybrid. The market is crammed with SUVs and choice of vehicle types has narrowed beyond reason. Does anyone remember 'estate cars' either side of the pond? Some American, British and French ones were masterpieces of mechanical design.

This video showing Automatic gear box with check dip stick of Toyota Yaris. Any auto gear box with check atf level by dip stick is using that as fill hole too. Get long neck funnel and pour atf fluid in the dip stick hole

Very informative. For sedan models with folding rear seats, popping up the trims is the only way to gain access to the shock. Thank you! Edit: the old dust cover is almost welded on my old shock. I couldn't even find a seam. How do you pull it off? Thanks!

Always recommend replacing the filter inside the pan at every ATF oil change too if you can. Gives you a chance to clean the pan of any contamination and metal build up inside too. You wouldn't change the engine oil without changing the filter there so think of it like that. Good video to show the process. But you need to shift the transmission while running through sll the gears and then recheck the level before driving so the oil is throughout the whole box as the fluid moves through the different valves in the valvebody to shift gears. Also it needs to be at the right temperature as per the manufacturers spec as the oil level will change as it heats up.

Not required with this screen type filter. Clean it and good to go. It’s more of a strainer than a filter.drain and fill ever 60k and your good.

@@meganandchad13 I changed my brother's one and it's definitely a normal looking transmission filter. Toyota actually doesn't recommend changing the oil unless under extreme or unusual conditions but it was having a little sticky solenoids 3rd to 4th change and it's come 90% after I changed the oil & filter, and cleaned the pan & magnet.

Good details! -- QUESTION (maybe dumb): So, when you go to torque the top nut, what do you do if the threaded center just spins? Yes, you can initially tighten with 2 open end wrenches, one securing the center that wants to spin. But, when you put a socket on there to torque the nut, how do you torque it if that center still spins?

The video only shows on Yaris 2006, a very old model. Its title was a totally mistake to say it covers till Yaris 2018 which was a mistake, or perhaps to lure people to watch this video. The oil filter location was not the same on newer different year model.

@BastianAlexanders
@BastianAlexanders Жыл бұрын

That's the same oil filter removal tool i got & well worth getting,i have a chain tool too for those tight areas. Always have 2 or 3 types if doing a few cars for the family as i do. *TOP TIP* - Pour in some new clean oil into the engine so it'll drip out any old oil sitting on the bottom of the pan 😊

If you first did a full flush around 30 to 60 thousand miles, and the fluid is perfectly vivid red and absolutely clean, most say a flush is safe. The "crowd sourced consensus" is if the fluid looks funky or the car is past 70 to 100 thousand miles, NEVER do a full flush. After that, it's safer to do multiple drain and fills spaced out over 10 to 20 thousand miles in between. Give the new and old fluid time to mix. Most of the fluid stays in the trans compared to what comes out on a drain and fill. NO ONE recommends running the engine, and certainly NOT shifting, during the drain. Check the owner's manual to see if the trans needs shifted through all the gears after the initial very cautious fill.
