When you open these holes with a hammer, are the holes on the back opened properly and in the same direction? I saw in a video that two layers of leather could be pierced with a French punch without using a hammer. Have you tried this with Sinabrox without using a hammer? I wish there was no noise problem in an apartment environment. Making holes in stitches with a hammer, It seems more enjoyable than using a Grommet machine
@PirateGoods2 ай бұрын
Yeah, you could pierce them by hands, even 3 layers with a good amount of pressure! And yes, you will have the same holes on the back. Of course it’s more enjoyable with a hummer, making em with grommet machine is sucks🤦♂️ I’m working in apartments, and no problems with a noise, I mean it’s not to much noise actually.

Do you ever have to go back and trim the edges up to the stitch line? Or bevel after stitching?
@PirateGoods2 ай бұрын
I’m beveling always after the stitching, firstly sand with 150 grit to have as straight as possible edge, then beveling👌

Which brand of edge paint do you use? Do you mix it with water? Are you applying a single coat? Does it peel off after drying?
@PirateGoods2 ай бұрын
The brand called Vernis. No, I’m not mixing it with water. I’m applying 3 layers. And it’s working well, no issues for more than 2 years of experience with it👌
@1arpa2 ай бұрын
There are many paint brands of this type on the market. The brand you mentioned is not available in my country. In your opinion, if the drying, sanding and heating processes are applied correctly during the painting process, Do you think that the leather edge dye used will make a difference? Did you reach this experience after trying other edge paints of different brands?
@PirateGoods2 ай бұрын
Yeah, same thing, it’s unavailable here, so I’m also ordering it from US, actually from rmleathersupply.com And yeah, if you’ve made everything right, you will have an awesome edge. I have one wallet, made 2 years ago and the paint looks good.
@1arpa2 ай бұрын
@@PirateGoods After the first message you gave, I first examined the paint brand's website :). I chose 1 paint and added it to the cart. The average price of paint is 7.5 dollars in our country, including the shipping fee It reached a price of around $85. I think it will be difficult for me to use this brand of paint. He also mentioned the application steps on the site. When I try the application steps with a different paint brand sold here, I will write the result here. If you have a different method you use I would be happy if you share it. Because I don't believe that only paint gives this result. Because you are a great craftsman. Your products are great. Thank you for your answer . I'm sorry for taking up your valuable time. Enjoy your work. By the way, congratulations on your new workshop.
@PirateGoods2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it sounds pretty costly 😬 My method is quite simple, firstly sand with 150-240 grit, to have as straight as possible edges, then paint 3 layers with sanding 320-500 in between. And then depends you want a matte or glossy finish, you could apply some tokonole with 1000 grit. And that’s it :) Let me know after you’ll try to make it this way💪 And yeah, thanks so much for kind words! Super happy with new workshop😊

Hello. First of all, thank you for this beautiful guide video. I wanted to ask you something. Columbus brand wax and Saphir brand polish are available in different colors. Do these differently colored ones transfer their own colors to the skin edges? For example, when finishing the edge of a green leather, does using green columbus and saphir help the edges to be green? Or are their colors just for appearance?
@PirateGoods3 ай бұрын
Hey there! Thanks so much for kind words! So yeah, usually edges are much more lighter than actual leather color, more to natural tones. And different colors of Columbus wax help you to change a bit edge tone (not huge impact, but depends on amount of layers). About the Saphire, I’m using the clear one, but shoe maker who recommended me it said that yes, different colors will also change the tone of your edges and much better than Columbus wax.
