Hi Linda, amazing video. It’s a relief to see people like you talk about this subject. I see that it’s been a while since you posted this video and today Steinway has the new Sirius 6.0 with the narrow keys, I can’t wait for the narrow keys to be more accessible to the small handed pianists like us; I want to be hopeful that we’ll have the option to choose a narrow keyboard not only for practicing with them, but the venues will have them too.

Thanks Ron. We were looking for a narrow key digital keyboard and Lumi keys are for a different market. We are developing a narrow key digital piano that should be on the market this fall. It will have a full 88 keys. Keep in touch at www.narrowkeys.com

I agree 100%. It's heartbreaking not being able to play my favorite music. I've tried improving my technique and simplifying big chords but it's no use, sometimes I'm playing something I think I can manage and end up aggravating my pain, tendonitis sucks. Standard piano keys are just way too big for most people! It's even more heartbreaking there's only a couple people in the world making narrow sized keyboards and the millions who would benefit from smaller keyboards can't currently use one. I've been stuck in the cast stage you experienced, it would be such a dream to get a narrow keyboard I can afford and finally unlock playing Rachmaninoff's magnificient bells! And more!

It's so unfair for small hand pianists and people still saying: Nah~ It's about technique 🙄 Even that sincerely lady Jocelyn who try to help small hand players with this etude(also on youtube), she actually has big hand(reaching 10th), promoting Ilama position instead of stretching. HOWEVER, her demostration while playing fast as usualy, guess what? She uses exactly that higher efficiency stretching instead of what her mentioned(ilama extra rotation move). I mean, another method only make you "reaching" it but still impossible to play at fast tempo.(or you just sacrifice the musicality like Linda, who is a professional pianist) It's way too often big hand players online talking about"technique" and trying to teach small hand people. It only gives false hope to those people and blaming themselves for not having good technique or not working hard(which is not true). Truth is: the size really matter!(and a lot), if you can only reach edge of 9th(or if you have even smaller hands). Unless you just want to play some modern chilling pieces instead of being serious or don't want to limit yourself! Thanks for sharing, I hope I got one here in Taiwan, is it possible to ship?

You are right, it is next to impossible for large handed players to understand the difficulties. That is why we have the Goliath key challenge. Maybe we should do a video of that! It is such a JOY when those difficulties disappear on narrow key pianos. And Yes we are processing our first international shipping this month. Narrow key digital pianos are going to parts of Asia and Europe. We are very excited.T

It was just amazing and wonderful to watch you play. Thanks for the review. Now I am sure that I didn't do a mistake by buying two of them. Me too I was thinking about 3. My Yamaha Clavinova CLP 320 is 88 keys. My Casio CT-S1 is 61. Now with two of these. I will get to 48. We will see. I just did not understand how to manage to play a sheet of music with just 24 keys. That's why I did bought two.

I live in a very small house in London with my two sons (5yrs old) who I’d like to learn piano. Back in the US we have a Grand piano. Would you say this is a decent set up for them to learn on? I’m thinking of have them slide out from an IKEA console in the living room.
@PlayPianoChords
@PlayPianoChords Жыл бұрын
5 year old fingers are still pretty spongy and I think a traditional keyboard action would be a better option as these are pretty hard to push down and they have a very shallow depth. They feel very different than a grand piano.

Should be much easier to transport 88 keys now. Recently I bought two travel pianos with 73 keys. I look forward to trying tge "Narrow Keyboard", and I hope this special instrument is a huge success. But why is it called a keyboard? Seems to have some built in sound and a decent action. Saying "Keyboard" (for the whole instrument) sounds very dated and demeaning. Millions of pianists (potential customers) would call this a digital piano. Please do a video on the specifications. How many sounds? Can the tone be adjusted? How do the keys work? What connectivity is there? Update: I now realise that it's only a controller. Fine. Good to know.
@PlayPianoChords
@PlayPianoChords Жыл бұрын
At this time it is a keyboard controller. We hope it will one day be a digital piano. I run mine through the V3 controller for sound and use various speakers depending on the venue. Sometimes a Roland monitor, sometimes Yamaha speakers. Thanks for your comments!
@Zoco101
@Zoco101 Жыл бұрын
@@PlayPianoChords Ah OK. So no sounds and no speakers. But presumably it has a graded weighted action. Or no? It's interesting that it's hooked up to a V3. Does that give good results? And do you need a separate device to access the V3 banks of sounds? I hope it's available in most countries and that the product will evolve into a full-blown digital piano.
@PlayPianoChords
@PlayPianoChords Жыл бұрын
@@Zoco101 It has a match-weighted action with continuous sensing. It is very responsive. The V3 gives good results. I have performed with it. The V3 has access to other sounds through an iPad app. At the moment we are shipping to USA and Canada but hope to ship internationally in the future.

I know you are not a synth player (assumption) but you should check out the Expensive E Osmose for their very expressive keys. They are different than a Piano ofcourse but they are bigger and have a newer technology keybed for classical expression in the digital sound world. Lumi: I believe you can adjust sensitivity in the app but don't quote me on that because I don't own any.
@lindaraegould
@lindaraegould Жыл бұрын
I do play synths and yes, they are changing in their sensitivity. The LUMI keys didn’t have a sensitivity issue, they had an issue where the key was almost impossible to push down at the back. Synth and piano keys need to be easy to push down at all points so their fulcrum was off. I tried the new LUMI keys recently at the NAMM show and there was a modest improvement but still not what you need to really play the keys.
