I am seriously thinking of retiring in WV. I've been through the state a few times and I am always touched by its beauty and the kindness of its people. However, I am concerned about the medical care. Is there somewhere in WV where the healthcare is reliable, especially for emergent situation that would require 911 like strokes or heart attacks? I'm reasonably healthy for my age, but sooner or later, something is going to get me. Additionally, are there any nice mountain towns that might meet those requirements? Thank you!

West Virginia has a shortage of things because of the rape it’s undergone by the exploitation of politicians and business tycoons of other states. The entire country has a shortage of affordable housing. House repair is expensive to people who can’t fix their own stuff, which west Virginians are good at. You need to factor in what region or metropolitan area you’re generalizing here. Healthcare outcomes are not special to this state, we’re fat, but that’s because we have food desserts and uneducated folks that don’t know any better, and might I add - only more of those obese per capita, that’s not even that many when you’re considering that an apx 15% poverty rate. We die early because we work ourselves to death more and we retire later than most. We are the butt of the joke by states and the federal government whose businesses and personal interests have stripped our state of our natural resources and sold out our factories. We are a story of perseverance, not of misery. West Virginians are hardcore. We are wild and wonderful. We’ve had the best of times and the worst of times, but it’s our love for our families and our region that will never be shaken.

Born and raised in WV. I live outside the state now but still have close family and houses there. The biggest issue, BY FAR, is lack of work in any industry that isn't health care, mining, or chemicals. Outside of those three you will not find a job that pays more than $100k (generalization, obvsly). That's why the majority of college educated WVians move as soon as they graduate. The second biggest downside is that because of the low population, getting services (like elder care, grass cutting, plumbing, etc.) outside of Charleston, Huntington, or Morgantown is extremely difficult and you have limited choice of providers, so you get what you get. There are lots of positives to living in WV, too, but it will be a wakeup call to outsiders moving there, esp. from large metro areas .

I've lived outside of Richmond for 25 years, am originally from Illinois, and agree with everything you say. Lets add the way these native Virginian's are, with their talk of Yankees. After 25 years I still don't feel I fit in with them. If the DHDC is in charge of expanding internet that will be screwed up for sure, I have first hand knowledge of how underhanded that department is. And the data centers are being put in EVERY county in this state, despite what the people want. Every politician, even your local supervisor is bought out...look what they did to Good. It used to be nice here 25 years ago, the properties and taxes were cheap, I wouldn't move here today. My kids are grown now and moved to other states, I'm ready to do the same. Illinois's winters have turned mild, my main reason for moving down here, and I'm ready to return.

My mom was born in Calhoun county wv Summerville her middle name was summers i visited there once as a kid the town had no paved roads and a dirt road around the courthouse really looked like it hadn't changed in a hundred years beautiful country i think alot about moving there but its beautiful where i live in ga i think i might go next year for a visit i might even look at property while there as long as theres fishing im happy

I have lived in northern Virginia for many years. I can see the very negative effect of the open borders and the other leftist policies and crimes. I am very seriously thinking about moving out of the area now before it becomes just like: Baltimore, Santa Barbara, Denver, Detroit, New York, Portland, D.C., etc. My community right now is still what I would consider mostly safe. Looking at history I am very concerned about the future due to leftist/communist, tyrannical policies and law enforcement, etc., Too many parts of the USA the mental illness, treason, lack of ethics, lack of understanding, facts, reality, and science,are spreading like an aggressive, malignant disease. The other problem is the school systems. Here are seemingly too concerned about pushing: mental illness, racism, all the general leftist policies versus focusing 100% on education and producing students that are ready to be productive, positive influences on society.

Wasn’t Thomas Jefferson one of the schools that got caught being racist? Weren’t they the one that tried to keep Asian and white kids from going to college, even though the White and Asian kids were more qualified than the Races that they pushed to the front.

It's really a good thing you like WV, I would hate to see a video of a state you didn't like. Had I never been to West Virginia, and seen this video, I would surely steer clear of the place. But as a life long resident of WV, I know better.

Front Royal is NOT in The Shenandoah Valley! It is on the north end of Page Valley. Shenandoah Valley is everything west of The Massanutten Mountain. And east of North Mountain. No more than that! Everyone wants to be called Shenandoah Valley so they can cash in.
