Since recording this footage I've gotten a bit better already, I've learned to brake more, so my cornering happens with more grip, and now I'm trying to use my body for cornering and braking. But that one is a hard one to master! If you have any more tips, I'd be glad to listen. :)

He is not drifting dude. His technique is called as NEUTRAL STEERING or ZERO STEERING. This is a midpoint between oversteer and understeer which makes the kart turning itself. He is controlling the steer by the pedals to found perfect spot. A lot of proffesional drivers using this technique as well.

Haha, I get your point as it's valid in a way, but I'll say that I'm 01:435 slower than the track record holder, and only 19 people managed to dip below 40:000 (my current track rank is 303th). So 2-3 seconds is maybe a bit much. You're correct that I'm experiencing understeer, but it's to a lesser degree than you think. I used to slide a lot because of not braking enough, but this is more due to trying to find the edge of the grip of the tires. So you're both right in that 1: yes, I'm oversteering and 2: yes I'm neutral steering/ throttle steering; I think I could clock in much faster times when I find a way to brake even later in some corners whilst oversteering even less. Overall I think my lines are as they should be, except for the mid section and that's the detail I'm working on.

Yeah, the karts are very consistent there, especially when compared to the likes of JPR. Looking forward to next summer in Inkart :D

Heya, I clocked in a 40:911 last time I went. I've only done 4 of those 28 minute sessions so far, hopefully I'll clock in a better time during my 2 hour stint with the rookie race on sunday! Hmm, the 270CC question is a tough nut to crack. I think in goodwill there's more length in between the corners, and the corners themselves lend themselves better to 270CC than other tracks. World Karts has a few more technical ones that follow up quite fast, whilst in Olen it's usually the hairpins where you need to slow down, and the one going in too. Other than that you can still give it quite a bit of throttle and still be fine. In Antwerp and World Karts they have a lot more karts available too, so I think it's more of a maintenance and cost thing rather than a safety thing. I don't think 5kph is going to save you if you don't know how to brake. I feel like some tracks need to warn or red flag sessions with more discipline. I've seen sessions being stopped after warnings have been issued too many times at Inkart, and I've seen people get blackflagged and banned there frequently for being total idiots. And I respect that more than being put in learner karts, though there's a case for having a minimum required time to get into the fast ones.

Hehe, I had a look at the video you mention, and it's the same experience as I've had. You can just hear it dip lower in revs than other karts in tight corners, so it can't seem to speed up in time. The marshal said that's due to overheating, but maybe something else is at play too. Are you also trying to make a karting channel? :)
