Every time I see this, I wonder just how the hell Riley got that job.

Y'know... I wondered why you stopped after this "essential listening"... But then, having read the entire series... While I can not say it's why... It doesn't surprise me. At a certain point... Probably when he decided to wrap up the series...Hambone changes direction... And even retroactively begins to retcon some things. He tries to make things consistent and maintain a proper continuity... But to an old comic book nerd like me.... Well, I catch such things pretty easily.

Yeah dang it ofcourse there was a glorious finale for the little brave Triman. Rest in peace little giant, free in the end finally escaped the horror after tasting a few days of life among her own.
@basbekjenl7 күн бұрын
Damn I'm afraid I feel far too attached to the little Triman. I'm glad she's having this time but there is a fear that the spotlight comes with a finale I'm not going to enjoy.
@basbekjenl7 күн бұрын
Geez, I suppose I shouldn't have expected only happy endings Triman really is a poor little broken thing and I can only imagine how horrifying the little creature must be to Ima. How impossible it must seem to Ima to reach the heights of desperation Triman's mother faced to reach that conclusion. How affronting Triman's desire for death must be to Ima. I hope little Triman regains her desire to live, much of her life was stolen from her but she seems young, there is still much life that can be had before escape takes her.

I'm imagining that the Zolderzil looks an aircraft carrier because it's from earth but it is really hard to imagine how a dinosaur ship would look. How big would the doors, rooms and hallway be? How tall and how wide? Surely you would want multiple dinosaurs to be able to pass eachother, so maybe fewer and larger rooms further apart? I do love that mental image

Someone should make a timeline on the Deathworlders wiki cause the dates are kind of confusing 😅

We're doomed sooner or later. Well that has always and will always be true, but it isn't over until you give up. When you give up it is over, if you try and fail it is over but if you try and succeed then you might have a bit longer. Never underestimate the power of one more/last try.

3:07 - i was NOT prepared for Bonnie Tyler. Not the least. is this the battle-song that Xiu will blast over the ships com-system while slaughtering the Corti, corti-lackeys and hunters?
@ABaumstumpf8 күн бұрын
Riverdance likely could be used as the most "hold my beer" flex warmove against hunters: A front of 20 humans just waltzing towards a hunter-army. The the floor buckling under the combined impact of the synchronised steps, the ship quaking and sounding the alarm as the hulls integrity is endangered, and hunter innards splattering in all directions with enough force to rip of limbs of the unfortunate hunters hit by their brethren guts. Or some metal-head or hiphop-fans blasting such loud music that the hunters just liquefy.

I'm now reminded of a particular instance in "Salvage, a story by user Rantarian" In which the aussie fighting an alien Wolfigator needed a rock. So the alien red panda with him tossed the "Biggest stone he could find." The stone in question being a river rock sized pebble.

Having to remove wisdom-teeth in general is a sign of bad eating-habits since childhood. they are NOT supposed to be taken out, to come out, or cause trouble. And there are no medical records of flossing having any beneficial health effects - but plenty showing its dangers. Eat NORMAL - not all that heavily processes junk. That means real, hard, bread and not the sugar-buns that many claim to be bread. Row fruits and vegtables, and in general a lot more hard and chewy stuff that trains the jaw bones and muscles. And brush your teeth. That is all that is needed.

She has the physical capabilities but needs the mindset. Video-games nowadays can help you with the tactics but basically none of them can help you with the psychological impact of the real situation - Nearly none of them... the US military (and of course others) have tried and are using videos games even for the psychological training. Still - a flexible sporty young women that trains some sort of martial art (even if it is one of the many that are all show and no practical use) will do a lot better than any armchair-warrior or mal-ninja.

A Deathworlder. An engineer deathworlder. A soldier at that. And them from stralia - the one zone that to the rest of those deathworlders is known as a death-zone. I mean just get him a knife and hope he doesn't eradicate several species will enjoying his holidays. And mind you - that is what a NORMAL human in actual reality on earth can do. Yeah there have been instances were survival-shows had to be cut short cause the contestants hunted too many freaking crocodiles for their nightly parties cause they tasted so good. Not soldiers, not trained professionals - normal everyday guys. And these aliens thought it would be a good idea to abduct a trained soldier from the most hostile parts of that deathworld.

11:46 “There was no waste, in the pack. Especially not blood.” <voice deepens> “Never did they waste blood.” We were hearing about logistics, recycling… and suddenly, we hear a mix of hunger and lust. Damn. Ive been spending too much time in the nominally “true story” parts of Reddit. Mother-in-law wore white to a wedding, and the Maid of Honor ‘tripped’ and spilled a glass of wine on it. Things that are only relatively important, and only because nothing that really matters is going on. In an HFY sense, maybe this is humanity’s greatest weakness. Any experience on a Deathworld could be Life or Death. And in the absence of weighty issues, we imbue weight onto trivialities. If our lives get too easy, we invent… Jerry Springer. The imagination’s version of autoimmune disease, inventing a threat when there is nothing to fear.

Solid story. Great narrating. Mixed feelings on the religion aspect. Works well as a reflection of who Jenkins is, but think there's a bit too much confirmation of his views from the alien response. True or not, religion is an attempt to explain the world around us. Like scientific models today, they exist as a model that seemed to account for how the universe worked, gaining more credibility as time went on without them being disproven. Calling religion a preference to invent a fiction rather than admit a lack of knowledge is rather large misunderstanding. Though I suppose the alien response is also reflective of how aliens might react to Jenkins (even if, as in other HFY stories, it can be odd that such a vast array of aliens had no experiences similar enough to humans to draw from.
