Nice model. However, I would want to hook up both a Bluetooth and a port.for a CD 💿 player to enhance it. Probably adding midrange speakers 🔊 would help too.

I just picked up one of these on Saturday. @Chris Caouette I would love to learn what you did on this model to rebuild and restore the amp and tuner. FM on mine is shot and AM is wobbly. The old Capehart phono is gone someone replaced it with a voice of music, but it needs work.

Where did you get the model number? My sister has a very similar unit, it is a 1958 model. But the original instruction manual says the chairside models are 432 and 433. Nothing starting with HS. Very beautiful job on it thanks for sharing. Hard to find info on these.

I know this is an old vid but it sure was great to see one of these again! I had a 50-B that I found at the curb years ago, I cleaned up and lubed the good ol' Garrard changer, put in a new Pickering stylus and she worked great. Lost track of it somewhere along the line but it was right up there with the KLH Model Eleven and Sylvania "Exponent" series portables. Very nice!

I’m getting one from eBay and I’m wondering did these support magnetic carts? Due to the head shells being removable I thought assume it is? And these are as good as the KLH and Sylvania portables?
@mjg2639 ай бұрын
@@oldradiosnphonographs yes, it should have a Pickering V15 magnetic cartridge. Sounded every bit as good as KLH Model Eleven for sure (not as good as the Model Twenty though, that was much bigger and more powerful). It has 4 or 4 1/2” acoustic suspension speakers with very large magnets in the cabinets, I remember the magnets said something like “Fisher Speaker Division, East Orange NJ” on them. Funny how I can remember all that but I can’t remember what ever happened to it!
@oldradiosnphonographs9 ай бұрын
@@mjg263 I want to use it for 78rpm use because that’s what I like the most, these date to 1964-65 correct?
@mjg2639 ай бұрын
@@oldradiosnphonographs I believe so, possibly made until a bit later like ‘67. I remember it was a germanium based cap coupled amp, so definitely before the silicon era. Earlier Garrard changers of this series had similar but larger headshells with short finger lifts on them which makes me think it might be a little newer than ‘64 but very close.
@oldradiosnphonographs9 ай бұрын
i did find a newspaper ad for this model from 1967 so you're on to something But i found an ad from 1964 too.@@mjg263 has a Pickering cart IF it was left in.

My parents bought a Bradford console stereo from Grants in 1962. It has the same mechanics as the one in your video, but has an Early American cabinet. It still works, but needs servicing. It makes a buzzing sound when the phonograph is on,and the turntable needs a push when the record drops. Any recommendations on how to fix it would be very appreciated. Thank you.
