Brilliant video, did you say you washed the skein to stop the twist before you made it into a ball? Have just had my sheep sheared and so would like to use and learn to spin the fleece. Thank you for sharing

All personal choices, I Iike the twist and have no issue working with it. But the more you do with it will lessen the twist

How old will the baby rabbits get before they get separated into male and female areas.
@The10AcreWoods2 күн бұрын
It's a good idea to separate them before they reach the age of 4 months as they can start to breed as young as 5 months old.

How do you skim the lanolin off the top of the water after scouring the wool. I just inherited 15 fleeces which are loaded with lanolin. I try to practice zero waste and would like to salvage as much as possible. If you have time, I would appreciate you thoughts🌝 Thanks in advance . Abby
@The10AcreWoods2 күн бұрын
Hi Abby, when you wash your wool with hot water, let the water cool the lanolin sits on top of the water like fat when cooking, then skim off. can purify it by add ing water and boiling then cooling dirt sinks lanolin floats to top.

I have the same Velvor set up as you, yet do not seem to have the black electric bit that circulates the cool water through the still part. Did that come with your kit or did you buy that separately?
@The10AcreWoods2 күн бұрын
The pump came with the kit, I would contact them and let them know you didn't receive it or if it's an older unit you can pick up a small pump.

Thank You for this video, I've never seen wool cleaned and processed. Each step along the way there's quite a bit to it I knew that there would be but I wasn't sure how involved it would be. Do you do this as a family business ? or mostly your own personal use? I sure can appreciate the cost of yarn now more that I've seen the process on how it's made. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos if you have them?

The male sheep is too cute! Tara I found it interesting what you said about goats resetting. Trust your gut about billy. What kind of rescues do you normally get that we don’t see if you don’t mind my asking. I recall you had the one horse maya and her baby and the two ponies shadow and willow… Did something happen to the rabbit that was running around in winter? I forgot the name. See mark you’re not the only one bad at names. LOL Amazing work.
@The10AcreWoods10 күн бұрын
As I mentioned in the video, Tara sometimes arranged to have animals go directly to a new farm rather than them coming in here first, less stressful with only one move. There were two rabbits, Poot is the name of the rabbit that was out last fall and winter, not sure what happened to her as we haven't seen her this spring.
