Echoing what leaptech510 mentioned. If we could get a video on how to install pfsense/opnsense on Proxmox and still access the Proxmox UI after setup that would be an awesome Christmas gift :).

Very useful video! Would be great if you can make a tutorial on installing opnsense/vyos as guest on top of proxmox.

alternatively, you can use ventoy which is a great USB multi-boot tool that allows you to boot off the ISOs stored on the USB by simply copying it off it. that way, if you need to switch to a different OS or Appliance, you only need 1 USB

Great suggestion! We might have to make a follow-up video on this.

will pfsense recognise the internal modem?
@protectliАй бұрын
It should recognize it, though it may need some additional configuration. We have an article in our Knowledge Base that goes into more detail here: kb.protectli.com/kb/how-to-configure-pfsense-ce-for-4g-lte-failover/

Am I able to use just the firewall capabilities because I have a router coming from alta labs and want to use that for routing. Can the router be disabled?
@protectliАй бұрын
Yes, you can definitely use OPNsense on a Vault purely as a firewall while keeping your router in charge of routing. We have a knowledgebase article that goes into more detail on this here: kb.protectli.com/kb/basic-soho-wireless-network/

On the vidio you say .img file but you actually download the .ISO file. Rufus throws up an error. "It looks like this is not a bootable image. The image does not appear to contain a partition table and might not be recognized or bootable by .."
@protectliАй бұрын
The standard amd64, vga image type should work for any Protectli Vault when burning the image to a USB. The ISO file should realistically also work, but this may be more commonly used for a virtual machine.

Is there any reason one would need to install a 2.5 ssd instead of just upping the m.2 ssd?
@protectli8 ай бұрын
They offer identical performance, so there isn't necessarily a benefit to choosing one over the other. People typically will install a 2.5" SSD to add extra storage on top of already having an M.2 SSD installed. Alternatively, a lot of people have extra 2.5" SSDs laying around, so they just repurpose their unused SSDs into their Vault.

I would assume that the 2.5" sata ssd would run cooler in the fanless rig, haven't tested it myself
