Thanks for the boat review. I'm a pontoon newbie myself, looking for a good used one in the Medford - Grants Pass area. I got rid of my driftboat when I stopped guiding in 2005, but am looking for something safe and simple to get myself on the water again.

Hey Preston, You said that the fish are always on the banks towards the end of the video. Given the development that park is gonna go through, would you say that a pier would be pointless to have at Golden Gardens?

Grab a fly rod and hit Davis lake. Fly fishing only lake that's full of 7, 8, 9, pound bass. My p.b. out of Davis is 12# 7oz. On a fly rod. Born and raised Texan and had to come to Oregon to catch my double digit bass. See ya on the water some day Preston. Tight lines buddy.

You are full of it! Power bait has worked for me for 30 years! My kids and I always limit out on opening day every year. I continue to use it with great results! I am going camping and fishing at a 250 acre lake next week where stock trout are abundant. I have no doubt that I will be able to catch them without issues as I did 2 years ago!

I use a swivel snap like a 3-way and hang a dropshot basically from the snap at leader. You can go weightless and change weights to different sizes based on bait.

There are some monsters in there but they smart. Used to go scuba diving there back in 1972. I did not know how big a trophy bass was. My cousin said "show my fisherman buddy how big the bass that you saw under that big log was" . When I stretched my hands out about two feet the guy's jaw dropped and the next day he was working that tree all day with no luck. Now fish are magnified under water by 30 percent so those bass I saw where probably 18 inches out of the water and probably about 8 lbs. The log is still there. It is in the cove where you make a 180 hairpin left as you drive in from Eugene. There is a chlorox bottle tied to one of the branched to warn water skiers. There are tons of blue gill in that lake so the bass are happy. That lake is fed from an underground spring. You can see the warm water boil up in the winter time. Wherhauser screws it all up with clear cutting and weed killer.

I haven't tried your bait choices (yet), but I've been using your "advanced" rigging for something over 30 years. Before the advent of power baits, we used floating marshmellow bait in white, orange and pink. We also used commercially available "salmon eggs" which were brilliant red. We used treble hooks, though, and the hooks had a wound spring on the shanks. The spring acted as a bait keeper for the marshmellow bait that was a thick paste. If you fish still water lakes and ponds, instead of floating your baits from the bottom, as your two rigs do, use a pencil float and tiny split shot to present the bait from the surface down. In addition to the feel of the bite, you then have the visual clue. I've also had success with the spinners you mentioned but, more than that, I've had some real good days throwing 1/8 Oz Kastmaster and Fiord spoons. Lastly, there are always the guys who ask what a bait is supposed to resemble. Fish, on the whole, are opportunist eaters- they'll eat anything they can. Hatchery-raised planter trout are fed pelletized food (think dog kibble) until they're released into the "wild". They aren't going to find pelletized food they're accustomed to eating and they have no idea what is or isn't edible.

I received a spark pro for my birthday last year and have used it 4 times a week for 35 weeks. It isn't as smooth or quiet as my other reels but it is a great reel. I mostly used it for weightless senkos and lures less than a1/4 oz. It can cast small lures 40-45 yards easily and handles 3-5 lbs bass with no problems. The best thing about this reel is it skips jigs much easier than a 100 size reel.
