This is like the G rated version of Pavlov's experiments. The real thing would have been rated R and banned in some countries.

Yerkes has it's limitations in communication. I'm sure the bonobos could learn English by sight reading and typing. The camping trips should have been more frequent to get kanzi out of the institutional setting

i dont understand what is the point of constantly torturing animals to understand their abilities when we dont even understand ourselves, and if they torture animal to understand people why not just study people . i study psychology and this is part of the curriculum, and it is just baffling to me that torture is necessary to study human psychology. how can these smart people be this wrong
@RonaiHenrik20 күн бұрын
or hear me out. Just maybe, these smart people are smarter than 1 single individual embarking on their psychology studies? :) Food for thought. For one, humans are animals, more complex, but still animals. Secondly, a lot of learning can be traced back to these basics (habituation, sensitization, even imprinting, classical and operant conditioning and yes, even complex learning). Thirdly, ethical concerns. You can't keep humans in cages, keeping them around 17 BMI so they are always hungry. Even back then that would have been frowned upon.

It occurred to my thinking that insulin production depends upon the same kinds of nervous system responses as saliva production. They are both secretions of the endocrine system. We have all heard what excess insulin production does for fat storage and weight gain. I had to think we are visually bombarded with images of food and snack advertisements; the smells of foods; kitchen sounds of foods cooking, pots and pans, utensils and silverware, etc. Even the calls of family members and friends. I have heard people say "That food smelled so good I bet I gained a half kilo simply sniffing it!" Now I can reasonably take that seriously! 8O

N.B it isn't acting independently, its behavior is shaped by controlling its environment. Skinner did this by keeping individual pigeons about 3/4 of their normal weight so that the birds were always hungry, and food could be used as an automatic reward. Literally...

Thr breed is a Norwegian Elk Hound, a wonderful dog. My family adopted one (she was mixed with rat terrier, but my point still stands), her name was Mya. She lives to the old age of about 13, but we had to help her cross the rainbow bridge for she had lymphnotic cancer all over her body.

Oh gosh that reminds me, i have the ability to spurt saliva when or just before i bite into some food. Like i noticed it spurt across the table once. So it happens every so often but why so much and out of my mouth i always wonder.
