'Son' the phonetic symbol is wrong. The sound shouldn't be short 'a' sound but should be norma ' a' sound. Thank you.

The good lady teacher teaching english pronounciation in this video lecture is Alex Bellem. Alex has an undergraduate degree in Arabic and Turkish. She followed this with an MA in (Theoretical) Linguistics at University College London (UCL) and a PhD in Linguistics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) where she focused on Arabic phonology and phonetics. She's also a CELTA-qualified English language teacher and spent a few years teaching English as a Foreign Language. At the time these videos were made in early 2008 Alex was lecturing part-time in the Linguistics Department at SOAS and was working as a Pronunciation Linguist in the BBC's Pronunciation Unit.

This is great and all but the vowel sounds do not match with IPA phonemes. What is up with that?

@ JavierMattos. , If you're non-English Speaker and "wanna " no! and "you want to" is the correct way to say it in British English. "Wanna" is slang and it 's related to Am English though it has also being adopted in the UK as colloquial jargon. The BBC phonenitcs guide you posted is the actual standard for the correct (posh) upper class, business English. Not all English speak so clearly. In academic terms its the norm and standard, but there are many dialects in the British isles and it won''t be so clear to the listener. Thanks for posting. I am a northern guy so I pronounce differently. Just like Spanish, there are tens of variants and not one is more correct than the other, they are just have different origins.

English is spoken in other countries as well besides UK and USA and there is no need to imitate these countries as long as you are clear in yr pronunciation these people are just trying to make money by insinuating that English has to be spoken with brit or USA accent which is totally wrong don't be influenced by people like this
