@flipside CT Quick message to Steve. Yes that’s right. All you have to do, is do it. Your mother was sure right about that one! It’s very motivating. :) and great advice! :) Steve, I made it back out west with the Old Jag. I’m beyond exhausted. 108 hours of total driving hours. I count 24 hours X 4 plus 12 hours. That’s not including the stops. Lots of trouble with the new winter tires unfortunately. They would not hold air pressure. I don’t think they were installed properly in Toronto. Lots of stops along the way Steve to put more air in and I had to tighten all of my lug nuts - this is all middle of the night stuff on hard cold highways. It started with a cop 👮♀️ stopping me for speeding. I had a flat at the exact same time he stopped me for slight speeding. He let me go on the speeding ticket and called a tow truck for me. That was a night spent sleeping in the car waiting for the tire shop to open. The cop did try to help me change the tire on the side of the dark cold 🥶 highway. But we both couldn’t get the jack to work in the dark so he just got a tow truck to come get me. This was on New Year’s Day. I actually left Toronto on New Years eve and I arrived on the morning of January 7. Two motel rooms and one lovely stay at my professor’s home for New Years eve and a lovely visit with him and his wife. After that I left on New Year’s Day and it was nothing egg shells and helter-skelter after that. -28 oC in the morning when I rolled into Winnipeg. The old Jag rims need to be very clean 🧼 and dry when new tires are put on those. Haha 😆 my bad luck but I made it back safe and there were a few good old stones songs along the way on the radio. I drove pretty much day and night. I hear that there was a lot of snow in Washington DC since I left. Very quiet back here out west. Okay I got all kinds of work to take care of bye for now, Steve. Best, Greg And happy New Year 🥳!!!! 2025!!!! Still doing it OUR WAY! And happy for it!!!

@gregdettling66937 күн бұрын
@ Steve The coldest I’ve seen is around here is - 60 oC No cars start. Most things kind of shut down. -18 oC ish or around -20oC is about par for the great white north for around here but it is a dry cold. Toronto and I think CT is more of a wet cold. Chill you to the goose bump bones. Get right inside you and feel cold from the inside out. That’s what fire places are good for and hot soup. You ain’t going nowhere! But spring is on the way lest we forget. I fall St Patty day when they paint the river green in Chicago the unofficial last day of winter and first day of spring. Seems like it anyways. Good old March 17 I got a warm hearted thing for the good old Irish running through this blood and I just can’t stop it. Yes Steve I’ll keep some of these scary true life adventures of mine for the writing space. As soon as the PTSD fades away. Being on the road is kind of tough even for a week. Maybe I’m getting soft. As soon as I’m done this paper I’m working on I’ll try to set up Greg’s writing space of Greg’s house of scary frightening and fascinating stories like we talked about. I’m under the gun right now with a lot of things I have to take care of so let’s look to later in the month of January. The DEAD OF WINTER!!!! It was in the very dead of winter that it was BORN! :) 2025!!!! There will be lots of shout outs to Steve in there too! :) Maybe even someone will actually read it.

@@FlipSideCT i graduated college May 78! I'm shocked how little money they were making on the tour as you had itemized the costs! They didn't start raking it in until the '89 tour when they had big corps sponsor them and guarantee them big bucks! I saw them in '81 in Syracuse, NY. Mick was trying to make it MJ & the Rolling Stones running around and off the stage! That's when he and Keith started to really despise each other! Thank goodness for Ronnie Wood to bring them back together like he did with Keith and Bill Wyman as you mentioned!

@@DaveGoldShow Yes, 81' was a start of big sponsor with the perfume company Jovan. Stones got a few million to add their name. It was helpful to cover the small venue losses they expected to take a hit on. But then came Budweiser in 89' and like you say became the start of BIG NAMEs.

Two things: Though the theories about the "origin story" are cute enough and entertaining, Jagger -- that is, the author of the lyrics -- has said this was little more than his commentary on the battles against the English Establishment that he and Richards, particularly, had survived. A "Been through the mill, and came out the other side, smiling..." sort of middle finger. Second, if you have never allowed yourself the pleasure, might want to catch Aretha Franklin's rendition of "Flash" (produced, I believe, by Richards, along with Wood, for a wholy forgettable Whoopie Goldberg '80s flick). Song still slams. You're welcome😊.
@FlipSideCT11 күн бұрын
The reason all these stories were presented was because no one really knows the true one. Even Jagger is one to not remember and he shuts down and removes himself from his past history. Is what he said correct, maybe, so I at times question his story? If he mentioned what the lyrics were about soon after the song was made, I would believe it more. Who am I to say what is correct and anyone else. Yes know this Aretha version , from 86'. I believe both versions of JJF was in the movie. I remember when the tune was released and not a fan of it due to the commercial polished sound. thanks for sharing!

I don't blame Keith -- but I was one of this teens who happily entered Keith's heroin world as soon as I could -- sick, right?-- he didn't flaunt heroin -- He flaunted his lifestyle. IT was part of the star making machinery... I don't think he was a terrible person. he was a drug addict. -- he just did it and we see the results. there was no master plan to make heroin "acceptable" -- but for THIS impressionable teenager who thought Keith ruled the world, all I wanted to do was have rotten teeth, chain smoke and shoot up -- I did all three and BOY did I pay the price, though actually for me it was mostly pharmaceuticals. At 65, I have been clean for 14 years -- after a 40-something year opiate habit -- I do NOT blame Keith -- it was the times and like the saying goes, Youth is mastered on the young. Plus.. thank to my personality and the "times" I probably would have ended up there anyway, cause I was just "that kind of guy,:" thank GOD those horrid days are over -- at least for me. Again, to hero worship Keith in the mid 70s--go to deep and you find Hell fast and we weren't rich and couldn't afford lawyers and private detoxes-- we just end up in a forgotten graves --Again, I no NOT blame Keith. but he made smoking SO cool it became a lifelong habit -- and I was I was recently diagnosed with coronary artery disease - I was STILL rationalizing smoking - until I heard Keith had quit after 55 years -- Well, there goes his last vice and my last excuse - I quit too -- so perhaps I AM still following Keith path -- it's just an easier walk now. The only problem is that I don't have thousand and thousand to spend on fixing my rotten teeth -- this video is a hard lesson folks, PAY ATTENTION so you don't end up like me . Peace out --

@@thomasminarchickjr.7355 Evan Dando should not even be mentioned in the comments of a marathon doc series on the stones -- sorry, personal preferences -- but i saw a picture a number of years ago with Anita and Evan, sitting on the same bed, lollygagging. around like they did -- Evan swore that he didn't have a gun before she would sit down on the bed w him -- hahah . just kidding about that.

Bruh,..! I must say: You're compilation skills are second to absolutely No One. As, noted, I have offered my bit of constructive criticism. That notwithstanding, your work is award-worthy and most appreciated. Please continue doing your damn thing!

Thank you for that observation, comments and support. There are several things I could improve on, I know,, but the compilation is the biggest challenge and intrinsic reward for me, and one that I take most pride in. cheers

love your passion man. Been watching your stuff for some time but just recently, having loads of time on holidays, I've watched a heap and have been inspired - by the Stones of course but also by the depths of your digging. My own creative work has always been mainly inspired by the stones and rock 'n' roll in general.
