As a man I find this a very difficult watch! However, it does seem to be a fairly smooth operation. I think the key is that the person knows exactly what they are doing. I think farmers should receive training and be licensed for this, especially as they are seriously getting into vet territory. I have heard stories where this didn't go to plan with horrific results.

It's pretty straightforward, but even a "best practices" or something to that effect wouldn't hurt, and would help reinforce good husbandry practices overall. There's certainly plenty of bad examples out there, unfortunately.

Dealing with one now for 2 weeks, its made a den under my lean to by my shop door and I have tried everything to evict it. They are very hard headed and stubborn creatures that won't take a hint. Last resort now gonna have to dispatch it.
@SouderStationFarm

A better option, if possible, is ditching the traps altogether. Instead, fence off the perimeter of the lean to, install a one way door, and after the skunk has left remove the one way door and seal things up.. They make one doors for skunk/raccoon size wildlife for just this problem.

How far can these pump with a little pressure at the nozzle? I'm trying to water a small motocross track, the pond will be 150 yards away, and another 200 yards of track length. If I ran 2 pumps, and relay pumped, could I cover this distance efficiently?
@SouderStationFarm
@SouderStationFarm 2 ай бұрын
That's a good question, and I'm not sure on the answer. You might be able to reach that far with one pump, but it'll probably be reduced output. What about filling a big stock tank on a trailer and running a DC sprayer. Lots of setups for spraying crops with fertilizer. Then you could just drive down the length of the track and spray as you go?

Have you ever had any problems by just pulling them out ? I've always cut them, but have seen videos of ppl ripping them out. I will definitely be doing g mine earlier like you though. Alot easier. Thanks
@SouderStationFarm
@SouderStationFarm 3 ай бұрын
If you cut you'll need a second hand. If you pull them out they typically tear at the weakest attachment point inside. I've read in the past that there's less chance of internal infection as the severed tube heals faster than a cut one, as well as most of the tube is removed when it's pulled. When it's cut there is a little bit of tube left behind that could potentially cause infection as the body shunts it away. Either way, we've never had any issues and it doesn't require a second step in the process. Best of luck, it's way easier on everyone doing things early and quick. :)

It's hard to say without seeing what you're working with. I went with a 2" barbed fitting to connect direct to the pump and then barbed quick connect fittings for simplicity. If you can send some pics or share a video of what you're trying to make work we can try and figure it out.

It's typically only from intact boars, and it'd be rare to find it in a commercial setting. It's pretty distinct. If you're having consistent issues I'd look at how the animals are being raised and consider a pasture raised farm raising olanimals outside close to home as a good first option.
