The dining is very similar on all of Viking’s ocean ships! Sometimes it varies depending on the region, but you’ll be in the same area that I sailed on, so it should be quite similar! Enjoy your cruise!!

Hi Lisa, the Viking staff were fabulous! I just let them know my allergies and they let me know what meals I can have. It doesn't hurt to just mention it each time, as you may have different servers, but they also will have it on your profile if you let them know. The gluten-free items are marked on the menu, so at the buffets, just ask. They take it very seriously.

We did the 4-day pre-cruise extension in Athens and it was a great experience. They took us to Delphi one day and to Mycenae (and the Corinth canal) another day, then the other two days were in Athens (including a trip up the acropolis early in the morning on embarkation day, so the crowds weren’t bad yet).

I took the Viking cruise from Athens to Istanbul recently and while I generally liked the excursions I did have some beefs. In Kudasi we should have spent more time in Ephesus but instead they cut that time short to take us to a Persian rug store to sell us rugs. We should have rented a car to take us to Ephesus so that we could explore on our own. Second, in Troy they took us to the ancient city but instead of letting us see the nearby museum, they took us for a walk in the modern city to see one of the Trojan horses built for the Brad Pitt movie - it was lame and unnecessary. Despite these beefs, I LOVED the cruise - it was my first Viking cruise but it won’t be my last.

Great video, thankfully I have something similar to most of these so I guess that means we're both pretty smart ;). I didn't see any prices listed in your video, I like to see that since that's a deciding factor sometimes, plus it's good to see if the prices change over time. I have almost the same anker power brick and I love it. I did notice that you didn't show what the other end of the octopus cable was, I wanted to know if it was usb-a or usb-c. For people going anywhere outside the US I also like to warn them repeatedly to check the voltage of their devices. Most phone and other device charges will accept a range of voltages and be safe but things like a hair dryer, electric razor, straightener/ curling iron might not and might ruin a trip if they get fried. Great video, not too long, I enjoyed the explanations and your clips showing how well the gimble works. Also, what sizes of storage were available for the phone storage thing?
@girlonthego
@girlonthego 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate it and will make note of these points for future videos! The octopus cable is a USB on the one I purchased. I left the prices out so I didn't date the video but perhaps I will add them in future ones, thanks for that! The Sandisk drive comes in 64, 128, and 256gb and the one I purchased is lightning and USB Type-C. I don't even look at anything under 256gb, personally. If there were TB options I'd be buying those. ;)

For my optional excursions, I paid $189 USD for Lake Bled & Bled Castle, $59 for Ancient Corinth & Corinth Canal, and I was on a waitlist for The Best of Santorini so I don’t have a final cost on this as it was a lump sum from my onboard purchases. A majority of optional excursions no matter where you sail to fall between the price range of $89 - $250 per person. There are a few that cost less than that, and a few that cost more than that, but that is the price range that most people will select from for optional excursions.

My wife and I have been on two ocean and two river trips with Viking. All have been wonderful trips and we cannot be happier with the service. Ocean ships are a more luxury vessel but the river trips are also very enjoyable. River trips are very social. There are no tables for two for dining and one large gathering area. if you want to be on your own the ocean ships provide more options. What a wonderful trip! On a trip to italy last year, we drove into Slovenia to have an incredible dinner in Kobarid. I really want to go back and tour Slovenia and Croatia! But first I am taking a Viking cruise this year in the eastern Mediterranean (the Istanbul-Athens itinerary). It will be only my second cruise. The first was a terrible Royal Caribbean cruise that I took my then-young daughter on. I never had the desire to go on another cruise until a friend mentioned this Viking cruise. Exactly! We are 4 time Viking cruisers, and when you mentioned reserving a table, we thought, “Huh?” You also talked about booking tea in the Wintergarden. Nope, first come (to the various sofas and chairs), first served. Many people leave by about 4:35 or 4:40, so we have gone then, and just ordered a scone to accompany our tea. Hint: if you prefer a certain table in The Restaurant, and the group of 3 servers in that area, you can try requesting that same table or a nearby one each time you go. We purposely went right near 6:00, and after the first 2 nights, the woman at the desk just called out “Table 101”, and we made great friends with the 3 Indonesian crew members who took our order and served us. We loved being “regulars” on our 17 day Panama Canal cruise.

Just a little addition to the Kitchen Table portion you talked about. The Kitchen Table isn't actually included in your fare. Like all of the other restaurants are. It will usually be shown as an optional excursion where you go shopping with the head chef in the morning, and then come back to the ship to make a meal for lunch or dinner with what you purchased. For itineraries that don't include the Kitchen Table as an excursion, it still can be offered, but you won't be going shopping with the chef. You will just end up paying to watch the chef prepare you a special meal. The ones that aren't an excursion are cheaper than the excursion option. This is just a random observation. I noticed the eggs benedict on your cruise, each sandwich/portion was placed on the long plate. On my cruise, each portion was placed on a tiny plate, and then put on the long plate. Now I'm curious why there was a difference. I personally found the tiny plate to be a bit annoying at times, but that's just a nitpick.
@girlonthego
@girlonthego 9 ай бұрын
Thanks for clarifying about The Kitchen Table. I noticed that on my trip, it was an excursion and I definitely want to try it on my next cruise! That’s curious about the Eggs Benedict. Maybe it was just a preference from the chef? It was definitely easy to scoop onto my own plate without an extra plate. It depends on when your cruise was, possibly could it have been a sanitary step? So not everybody touches a spatula and instead just pick up a plate? Just a thought I’m not sure.
@erics607
@erics607 9 ай бұрын
@@girlonthego Who knows if the extra plate was a preference or not. I'm not sure if it was a sanitary thing or not. In 2019 on my first cruise, I'm pretty sure they were served on a plate, and this past summer they were served on a mini plate as well. The plate was a little heavy, so it made it awkward to use the spatula, and if you grabbed it with your hands you would get burnt a little because the plate was hot. If I moved my main plate to make it easier to put something else on it, the mini plate would usually slide around, and it was a bit annoying at times.
