Great match performance. I'm curious as to the stage plan for stage 12. Did you have to shoot everything while working from SP to POC 1, engage the steel, and then engage or re-engage T4 and T6 from cover? Looks like a fun match.
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting6 ай бұрын
Yes, that would have been the original plan for the stage. However, by the time we had made it to the match, the disappearing HC had been removed. The entire stage was shot starting on the right and then moving and finishing on the left.

Way to power through all the malfunctions. Did you figure out what was happening with the gun?
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting7 ай бұрын
I did not. I've had reliability issues with the gun/ammo all year. My last case of ammo that I purchased in January was full of light primer strikes at several local matches I went to. So I swapped ammo to two other brands and began having feed ramp issues at the Red River IDPA match and Arkansas state. Then the barrel lug on my Q5 sheared off at Oklahoma State and the feed issues worsened when I borrowed a friend's Q4 to finish that match. I then borrowed a Q5 from another friend and stitched together a working gun with his frame and barrel, and my slide and optic for a couple of local matches and Texas, on a 4th brand of ammo, which looks and acted like extraction issues. So, it's been a mess. My Q5 is going back to Walther (shipped yesterday) and I bought a brand new one that I'll be working out over the next few weeks. I've also ordered new magazine springs and followers too. I have no idea what to expect next weekend at Alabama State.
@travispowell24717 ай бұрын
I have had 2 friends of mine that had a cracked locking block with these pistols. Which somehow caused all kinds of strange issues. Hopefully Walther will iron it out for ya. I watch all ur matches. And you are waaaayyy more calm and collected about the malfunctions than I could be.

I had some dumb penalties and poor mental management. It was a rough match, but I wonder if there will be an OK state match again.
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting7 ай бұрын
Not at that location, without a change of range ownership and management. Fortunately, it looks like there will be other options. I will be running a tier 2 (OZ Shootout) in Northwest Arkansas, 2 hours east of Tulsa, on 5/10 next year. I've also heard rumors of a tier 2 being hosted by Oil Capital IDPA just south east of Tulsa (they used to do the Badlands match a few years ago). Then there's Guns of Glory, up in Bartlesville OK, who have an outside range and started a new club last year. There's rumors they'll host a tier 2 or 3 as well. I don't know if either of those other two OK clubs will end up calling theirs OK State, but you never know.

@johntaylor98238 ай бұрын
Damn, that was painful to watch. I'll bet it was at least 10 times as painful to shoot. I always bring a second gun set up almost exactly like my first, just in case of this kind of catastrophe, even for local matches. I've often thought that doing that was a little too fussy and unnecessary overkill, but then I see something like this and I keep dragging that second gun to every match. Better luck on the next one.
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting8 ай бұрын
I had my carry gun, and while not identical, it was my planned backup. When my friend offered to loan me his Q4 SF, I thought it would be a better fit. I was wrong (nothing wrong with his gun - it was a great gesture and much appreciated). I know the ammo I was using was having some issues in my Q5 SF and his Q4 SF, but it had run flawless in my carry gun (PPQ Q4 Tac) with no issue. So the weight would have been lighter and I would have dropped some points, but I ended up doing that anyways...Hindsight is always 20/20.
@NDcompetitiveshooter8 ай бұрын
Sorry you had so much go wrong on you. I think of those as mental fortitude tests. Good job powering through all that. I had a match where my mag release spring cracked and my gun dropped the mag out after each shot. I got quick at picking up mags and reloaded the gun for each shot.

What was your thought process on stage 8 (the standards stage)? Wouldn't it have been easier to go left to right (or right to left), just down the line with 2 body 1 head (3), repeat (6), reload, and then another two Mozambiques? I'm not disparaging, I'm just trying to understand. Thanks!
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting10 ай бұрын
This is going to be kind of a long answer based on my strengths and weaknesses. First, for my gun with my grip, I almost never slide lock on empty. So IDPA's rule that allows you to initiate a reload with an empty magazine and one in the chamber is to my advantage. I will shoot to empty sometimes when I'll be reloading on the move, but try to avoid it when doing standing reloads. It's faster to just drop and insert the magazine and not have to rack the slide to load a round. So that means on this stage, to save time on the reload, I need to shoot 5 and reload, not 6. Second, since I'm choosing to leave a headshot undone as part of that first engagement, I know I have to make it up. The most missed shots are first shots - out of the holster, and off of a reload. So I don't want to go back to that target for a head shot immediately after the reload - I wanted it on a transition. Lastly, I also am more comfortable shooting right to left than I am left to right. To sum up, I split the 12 shots into 5 and 7 in a pattern that allowed me to shoot right to left, minimizing my reload time and avoiding a headshot as a "first shot."
@Freddonzolo9010 ай бұрын
@@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting wow thank you for that very detailed breakdown. Makes perfect sense to me. I'm shooting my first match in about a month so these insights are invaluable

There were a lot of tight non threats in that match, even at distance. I saw a lot of good shooters go a lot of points down and struggle to find that speed/accuracy balance. That low light stage could make or break you, and it broke a few people.
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting Жыл бұрын
Indeed. One of my main concerns about the match is that if it's frustrating Expert and Master level optics shooters, what is the confidence level of Marksman and Sharpshooters shooting irons, especially in CCP or BUG.
@chrisharris6834 Жыл бұрын
@@jodyboxcompetitiveshootingindeed Jody! I shot CCP expert and I had 1 no shoot and 5 misses. It was frustrating sometimes. I’d call good shots and go down range just to find no holes in the target. It was a tough match for irons.

Hmmm off the barrel??? One can argue that, as it didn’t PASS through the barrel and the bullet key holes, which is scoreable.. Which also questions the barrel. It’s mostly white. White is “standardized soft cover” which pass through would count. Small amounts of black could be hard cover… But I also didn’t get the stage brief. Still a good showing my man!!!
@jodyboxcompetitiveshooting Жыл бұрын
I've seen this called both ways. I had a couple of MDs from other matches in my squad, and they agreed it probably was not scorable. I asked the AC about it too (he walked up about 3 minutes later) and he said not scorable. However, after re-reading the rules around it, I'm inclined to agree with your assessment and that it should score. Lesson learned - I'll have the pull the target and read them the rule next time. Or maybe next time I'll just make my hits... Thanks for the kind words!

Indeed! Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. I’ve learned a lot this year😂😂. SC I lost because I double tapped a non threat in the standards stage. I shot SHO and WHO for a month because of that. Rollin on the River I lost because I looked at a target and didn’t shoot it. My mental game was off because of travel. I’ve now rectified those travel problems. OK state… don’t try to impress squad mates from Wilson Combat . They aren’t there for me... haha The list goes on, and you’re correct. It’s all part of growth!
