I'm not that surprised Win 7 is talking to Win2000, they're probably both still using SMBv1, LM/NTM, & older versions of SSL/TLS, but the fun time will come with Win10 pro not using older versions of SMB/TLS & probably using kerberos instead of NTLM

Hi pal, great video and experiment. I remember my MCP lecture stating it announces itself to the earlier stuff. That was if you connected a windows 2000/ windows XP system to a Windows NT4 domain controller. As they are backwards compatible, also windows 2000 servers will have been still in use, when windows 7 came out too, It would have been great to see what windows 2000 server saw it as, in the active directory, NT4 server sees windows 2000 and windows XP as NT5. I remember there is or was a cut off point, Going the other way, say trying to add a windows 3.11 machine to a windows 2000/ 2003 server. It wouldn't play ball. due to security reasons. Windows 95 had to have the AD service thing added to it, off the windows 2000 server disk, for them to play ball together. As that point windows 95 was about finished when windows 2000 came out, and windows 98 wasn't that far off either. I know windows 95 will connect to windows 2003 server, as along as it as the windows 95 has the AD service thing installed. But i cannot see it connecting to a windows 2008 server though, if its anything like the windows 3.11 to windows 2000/2003 thing. Might be worth seeing if windows 7 will connect to windows NT4 domain controller.

Since there's no special features on win 11 that u don't hv on 10 other than weird design, it's completely okay to use win 10 for at least 5 years, because that's long it will take for the system to be really outdated, but it's still good to hv win 11 compatibility because it will become unfortunately a standard in future

I use Windows XP all the time. I couldn't afford the good games when they came out, nor a PC to run them, but today, I have about 1000 XP games and they are all available to use whenever I want, it's SIMPLE to stay safe aswell. I turn off the NIC and use it offline, it works fine, it's still faster than anything that came after it. Even supports my AMD RX580 8GB GPU, and it's a Quad Core CPU @ 2.3GHZ, so FAST isn't the right word.....and if you REALLY feel the need to surf the 'net on it, k-meleon browser will open any current website without an issue. Avast still support a 32bit Anti Virus for it too.

my main desktop uses windows xp and my laptop runs vista. I think there is a DNS you can use to make networking more secure. I don't currently have a bank account yet but when I get one I might just manage it with my phone.

I use WiFi on Windows 7 in 2023 and no compromises so far just yet you should be fine using it if you have an antivirus software that provides basic protection this is why we buy those software.

I use my "Wayback Machine" primarily for all of my wonderful programs that are not compatible with newer versions of Windows. I have many of the old Micromedia programs that work perfectly on XP Pro and I do not have to buy into Adobe to use them. Corel's office suites from that time beat the hell out of anything Microsoft had to offer then or even now. I still use Word Perfect 8 for most of my documents. I can go online with XP, but rarely need to as I only rarely use these programs. However, they are there if .I need them. Having used Windows 10 on laptops, I refuse to put it on my desktops and am staying with Win 7 Pro on those.

Why don't you just use Linux Mint and DOS Box?

People when you download Ubuntu or Mint, have your computer hard wired into your internet system, as this will limit the issues with drivers and auto install them as well with no interruptions. Laptops The best windows laptops for Linux are Lenovo!! Hands Down! They already meet the standard and Linux requirements also most are made to MIL-Spec. Never had any issues on a Lenovo. On Dell, Msi and a couple of others I have had install issues! I run Ubuntu on a Lenovo 550S and a W541, both older laptops but works well and very upgradable. Microphone issues?? Don't Use Condenser Mic's!! I recommend Cardioid or Super Cardioid with an Interface NOT a USB plug in Mic. RE-20, Beta 57/58 etc. should work too. Apollo interface works well with Linux. there are many other interfaces out there. I recommend the Apollo because I know it works! Music player always install VLC just for codecs (Restricted Extras is Nice as well too). I've found that Lollypop Music Player Kills the competition! Rythmbox is plain, Ugly and boring, it doesn't offer what Lollypop player offers! See for your self! To a Noob Google is your best friend, have issue google it! Most issues have a fix for them!

Windows XP is so brilliant that it is impossible to get bored of it.

Windows XP can still be used today in 2023 and online with a compatible web browser like Microsoft Edge if cracked to be made compatible.

The only reason I left XP back in 2014 was a game requiring directX 11. Now I'm stubbornly refusing to "upgrade" to windows 11 because the liars told us 10 would be supported forever
