Tried it with Momoi 130# mono didn't like it. Tried it first on my desk drawer handle which is about 1/4" round slipped every time. OK maybe too thick?? So I tried a 9/0 bait hook knot held under tension but would come loose too easy wouldn't stay binded without tension. Too bad wanted to like this knot.

Thank you for posting this video. I am heading to Costa Rica and purchased some 80# fluorocarbon for my leaders. I have spent the past week trying to find a knot that I could use with it. I tried a bunch of different knots, and they all looked ugly because the line was so thick. I came across your video, watched it twice, and tried it out. I was thoroughly impressed with how easy it was to tie this knot. I made 5 leaders with barrel swivels on each end. The knots look tight and clean. I will forever call this the John Collins knot. Thank you very much.

Stupid question. Spectra is braid and that’s your main line right? Why would you tie fluro to mono. Wouldn’t you only use those as the leader to mono? What do you use and when?
@PayneWaterStudio10 ай бұрын
You do it for tuna you tie mono to your main braid line then a a short fluro to the mono. Always used for fishing for tuna off Southern California. The fluro is outside your guides as he described.
@Redlegarty10 ай бұрын
@@PayneWaterStudio got it… thank you. I guess braid gives you lots of line, mono shock absorption, and the short fluro is invisible.

I fish SD long range. It’s not new, it’s similar to a marlin shock leader to chafing leader I’d tie for marlin. I saw it called the Alberto knot in another video. The RP is known for its long range “arrogance”. I use the Peña or Bob Sands knot. This one is smaller though

*I was pleased with Trilene mono line **enjoyable.fishing** recommend performance (25 lb. test) because it offers smooth casting with no tangles/bird's nest in the spool. And, knots can be tied effectively with ease. I would recommend.*

Just a suggestion I would have is 1 non-fish item as even though I’m an avid angler I’m not a huge fan of fish. On such an outstanding trip it would be great to be able to express that the trip was perfect as some of us know if the tummy is happy it’s great cuz we’ve all had an unhappy tummy! Other than that I’ll be seeing you folks October 2021!

I also love the Royal Star & the RP!!! They are the only multi-day boats I go on! I’ve been on most all of the SD boats & there are none better! Crew is OUTSTANDING & FOOD IS ROCKIN’!!! Stay away from the Top Gun 80 crew is strange at best & the food is worse than D rating cafeteria crap!!! When dispatching a tuna they beat it with a 3foot pipe that had a giant bolt screwed to one end…WTF!!! Ever hear of a spike ya flip flop (if you’ve seen the crew you will know what I mean by flip flop)!!! Anyway, I’m not a big shit talker but stay away from the Top Gun!!! GO WITH THE BEST…ROYAL STAR or ROYAL POLARIS…NAME SAYS IT ALL!!!

I was on the RP about 7 years ago & had the pleasure to listen to Mr. L. Talk about casting & the one main thing that I picked up was to have your reel facing the water or down when casting. He does it every time in the vid but didn’t bring it up. Just helps let the line out smoother & less backlash! I go again this October ‘21!!!

Captain, that knot is the base of a chain knot , after that springer knot to do half itchs in opposite side of the main line to form a chain of about 1 inch it works like a spring that absorbs the shock when a big fish hits. Love your videos- Eddie Fishtaco 😲

This reminds me of the knot called the jansek special. The only difference is the jansek special passes the tag end through the 2 loops a third time instead of your 2 times. I found it in a knot book & liked it because its simple, its a 100% line strength knot & when tied right & brought tight, the tag sticks out at a 90 ' angle from the leader under pressure & it forms a nice tight little "fist" thats perfectly in line. I use it on all hooks & those new tactical clips for quick changing lures. Great knot, never failed me yet. Use it on 40 & 50 lb fluoro all the time for lingcod & halibut - now I know it works for bigger game too. Thx! For the sake of my aging memory I call it the 1 2 3 knot (1 knot, 2 loops, 3 times throught the loops) simple simple.
