I got this really gorgeous (and expensive) yarn. It was a purple fingering weight yarn with tinsel and confetti/tweed pieces. The first hank I tried to wind got super tangled and I kept having to cut it and knot it back together. Took me hours and I cried. The tinsel and confetti was everywhere so one of the skeins is a bit bald 😭😭 I bought a swift IMMEDIATELY after.

Thanks so much - this has really bothered me lately, that is, to be conned into buying a pattern that is AI generated. I also totally agree that crochet designers should not be concerned as their skill won't ever be replaced by AI. Your tips will help bring me some peace of mind when buying future crochet patterns. Have a great week.

This should be a series. It really illustrates how these AI patterns really don’t work and will bring more exposure to this to warn people.

I started finding tutorials on youtube and find those who also have their own shop and facebook page.. and I followed them and learned about pattern creators. I literally am in the groups of the people I buy from, because that is a great way to know if it is real or not. I don't buy a pattern of someone new if I can't find them elsewhere on the internet. I don't buy any pattern from anyone if the reviews are bad... I ask about those pattern creators in the crochet groups I'm in. And since I am also in a 'free pattern' group, I love to help the new people when they ask about a pattern that is most likely ai by informing them and also help them out by finding tutorials on youtube :) or any known website that also offers free tutorials.

I like your LEGO Succulents in the background. :) Also, in the same way that machines can’t actually crochet and it has to be made by hand, they cannot understand how to write a pattern for it.

I've been reporting that shop you showed. If you look at the fox sitting in the hands, the hand has six fingers. It's infuriating that people are doing that and then a new crocheter gets ripped off and thinks it's that they just can't crochet. Definitely always look at feedback, how long the seller has been on any given platform, and if the picture looks too good, it's most likely AI. Crochet is fuzzy..yarn is a fiber and it will never look so pristine. Thank you for posting this! The more of us that speak out, hopefully we can save people from getting ripped off.

I definitely feel bad for new crocheters, because like you mention they may feel bad if their finished product looks nothing like the picture. Also, they probably have a harder time distinguishing between AI and real crochet, so it’s important that more people speak up on the topic!

I love that you also showed those awesome patterns by actual designers. I do think that ai crochet pictures can inspire creators, because that blue monkey thing would be quite funny to design myself.

I felt it was extra important to shout out some real artists during the video !! And seeing someone actually recreate the lil creature the ai generated would be so cool!! Thank you sooo much for watching and commenting ☺️🫶

I asked ChatGPT to make me a crochet pattern to "crochet my own ChatGPT" and the pattern ended up making a blue and white humanoid figure. It was super basic and the head is absolutely massive compared to the body but it's pretty cute lol. It also listed blue, white, and grey yarn in the materials required but didn't use grey yarn anywhere in the pattern 😂 I also got it to make me a pattern for a crochet bat and that didn't turn out as well. The whole thing was just a sphere for the body, 2 circles for the wings, and 2 smaller circles for the ears. It didn't say how to attach these pieces except that I should "leave the top of the wing free" so it didn't make a bat but rather some alien fly 😂
