That's a lovely bit of kit. Should serve you well. Is there a good budget option for home gamers who may only strip a camera or two a year? There's a couple of things on Ebay but they look like they're better suited to leaf rather than focal plane shutters.

Good video! Whilst it’s good to see new film cameras being produced, it’s going to be difficult to market them in the modern age when used professional 35mm cameras can be had for peanuts in comparison. In addition, the modern hype trends come and go so quickly that it’s hard for a big company to commit to developing a brand new product.

Good to know people still like tearing these old cameras down. I’m expecting an untested ME S in the mail today from eBay. I’ve been watching these camera repair videos, but I usually get too anxious to finish them🤣

For a manufacturer like canon it wouldn’t be so hard I guess. There’d be a price for making all these injection molds. They could revive let’s say the last canon Eos 7 diagrams and build from that. That was in effect a digital camera body as we know today.

Crazy, I just bought a Demi EE17 and I'm having a bunch of fun with it! Honestly, it's my first film camera with a coupled light meter so that may be part of the reason lol I don't think I have zone focusing down because I keep trying to just use the lenses' distance markings and guess instead of the pictograms as most of my photos aren't of people. Also, shooting more expensive films in half-frame cameras is kinda exciting because I find myself a bit less scared of shooting, but still having the restraint to try to carefully choose subjects, compose well, etc. This hasn't yet improved my focusing abilities or helped me not fire off a couple duds or misfires in my first roll lmao

What if I love my APS film camera and therefore am the greatest enemy of all lab technicians giving them rolls of 40 exposures on expired 200 colour 24mm film on a cursed APS film cassette. I do at least not ask for it back in the cassette I’m happy for them to come in a sleeve.

The main issue is that it's not economically viable or logically sound for film unless it's battery related or those evil guys making murderous chemicals. It's not a virtuous route if investing heavily into outdated tech. I love film, but I know the day will end once negatives become more than an hour of minimum wage😅

I would say in the domain of color and cinema film, Kodak is far and away the market leader. For cinema, your only other choice is ORWO, which doesnt have the connections nor supply chains in the US, nor do they supply 70mm film, or do they produce enough to meet demand, I'd say. For color, Fujifilm is downsizing by the year, I'm sure their slide options won't be here by the end of 2025, ORWO sort of has a foothold but everyone seems to dislike how it looks (I like it, though.), and Harman is Harman. For Black and White, there is much competition, and Kodak lowering prices and general lower prices of their b&w relative to the competition vs color. They can abuse their market position to dictate prices, to me, Kodak is a monopoly for cinema and color.

I love this video. I think youre absolutely right about many things, however i would counter your point about kodak not employing anti trust practices by only making motion picture film available to Cinestill. Kodak and Cinestill are absolutely in bed with each other, and kodak stands to benefit from their partnership as well as Cinestill's monopoly of repackaged cine film. After all Cinestill operates directly out of the Kodak factory and has a heavy hand in producing and distributing the new kodak minilab chemistry. Personally i dont see a difference between a monopoly and two businesses that work exclusively with each other to line their pockets and cut all competition.
@RompingBronco5 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and I really appreciate your comment, I would agree with you on the monopoly front in terms of two businesses bettering one another but I was trying to be a little generous in my assessment of the Kodak Cinestill relationship, I’ll have to look into it more but I didn’t want to be overtly negative and dismissive of the situation. Thank you again for watching and commenting!

Thanks to you I've repaired an ME Super, a couple of Super A's and an MX curtain derailment. In spite of not always having quite the camera angles needed sometimes due to the awkward nature of positioning and leveraging whilst negotiating half loose mirror boxes, your general gist was useful as you ruminated on the mechanical functions. Quickly explaining the wire connections at the end of this one was apprecieted. The eureka moment to finding out I had actually managed to fix one of these things was when I realized there is a sort of grounding tab that needs to be soldered into a particular spot in the cluster of wires mounted to the relay PC board that I'd missed, because it wasn't an obvious colour coded wire. So I got a Black ME Super body working like new after straining the wires to get at the damping grommet. Had to do some resoldering which I, like you, had tried to avoid in the first place. Doesn't always work with my clumsy skills, but for £13 that "parts, not working" ebay purchase was well worth the trial and error and the failed repairs that went before it.

This comment made me really happy to read, it’s hard to rationalize doing these videos sometimes because they don’t perform as well so my limited editing time is usually better spent elsewhere but knowing I can help revive a few cameras and spread what limited knowledge I have means a lot so glad I could help!

Oh -- once I get expired film, regardless of the previous storage, I put it into those old lead-lined x-ray protection film bags and then in my freezer -- so at least it should not get any worse than it already may be.

When I have shot expired B&W film (35mm/120/620) over 20 yrs old, if often has lost some light sensitivity (but not the 1-stop/10-years of age rule for expired C-41 film), but also has some base fog. So it is interesting, but yeah -- not as good as 'new' film....
@aengusmacnaughton13757 күн бұрын
I think that if you have old shot Kodachrome (still film) with family photos, never developed, there are some labs that can process it as B&W and you could at least get something out of it -- but yeah, not much point in shooting it now. FilmBoy24 processes found Kodachrome Super8 film as B&W at has recovered family home movies from the 70s/80s in at least watchable condition.

I don't buy expired film, but I *have* expired film. I think most of it has spent its life in the freezer at 0°F. Some of it sat around in cameras, was partially shot, and then stored in the fridge at around 34°F waiting for me to send it out. I don't know how well any of this will fare.
