I love Arpino, and the Joffrey Ballet. Would like to see more, but they are very hard to find.

All I know is that the Joffrey ruined its production of The Nutcracker after the horrid Wheeldon version came about. They removed ALL of the magic. All of it. Save yourself the money and see a suburban version or get to ABT. But the Joffrey’a current version is nothing short of poor and lifeless.

A beautiful performance. But it is not Davis Robertson, it is Michael Levine. I know personally as I am the pianist in this performance.

I saw Trinity in San Francisco (I was at Berkeley at the time) and in LA in 1975. I was the driver for Gerald Arpino when he visited LA. I was also a good friend of the musicologist Jim Howell after he left to move to San Francisco to take up a career as a physical therapist. I went along as his guest to many of the Joffrey cast parties. I’ve still got the LP “Trinity” album with Gary Chryst on the cover. At the time they were also performing Arpino’s “Sacred Grove on Mt. Tamalpias” and “Kettentanz”, which I really enjoyed. I regret I never saw them in New York. The ‘70s was a wonderful time for dance: I was able to see Baryshnikov, Nureyev, Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Joffrey, and so many others.
