Question on the jesso - could you just use mod podge to give it a thicker feel? or just paint as is? If you wanted, you could use the brown side for the inside and you wouldn't have to cover it necessarily... Fun idea!
@FunkAndDazzles6 күн бұрын
The gesso adds a texture to it… I have painted some just plain gold with no gesso layer. You can also mix a bit of baking soda into your paint or modpodge and that will add texture!

Awesome! I think that’s basically the same as regular food dye…. But maybe it comes in prettier basic colours? I just got 24 spray bottles in my latest Temu order…. Gonna make a ton of spray inks!!!

When u made the oxide, u said you added some white acrylic paint - is the base water or alcohol? Tysm
@FunkAndDazzlesАй бұрын
Just the water, food dye, and white acrylic paint. Someone suggested putting a heave bead or small marble or ball bearing in the bottle to help with mixing… I just tested the one I made a few days ago… a few shakes and it was all mixed, and sprayed fine!

I LOVE that you show your full process in these videos. All the experiments that some people misnomer as "mistakes." This is what art process is. Period. Finished product perfection is boring. Finished product shown after a full process of "let's try" and 'what if" and "oops wasn't expecting that but it's cool," and so on is the true journey and far more interesting. I learned a lot from your purple experiment and then noticed how you watered down the yellow. It seems that this food coloring is very pigmented. I think diluting a lot first may be the trick. I don't know I haven't done it yet. But it looks like the blue is overpowering the red. I haven't watched the whole video yet, I'm at minute 14 but I'd use a lot more red with very very diluted blue and see what happens. Another experiment I'm looking forward to trying it.
@FunkAndDazzlesАй бұрын
Thank You!!🖤🤍 yes I think the warts and all approach is best… I can’t remember if it was this video or the one before where something really surprising happened that I hadn’t expected! So I figure if I keep the surprises… I have to keep ALL the surprises! Good or bad! And I do feel the purple not turning out was a pretty good cautionary trail in the end because we all probably feel it should have been easy… blue + red = purple! But not so… which tells us to be mindful in all of the mixing! And yes they are highly pigmented… which I hadn’t thought of, but you know a few drops can colour a whole bowl of frosting!!! So it makes sense NOW!!! I really am eager to get my mini spray bottles from Temu so I can attempt the purple again!!! I guess I should film it as an update!!! DIY PURPLE INK SPRAY!!!💜

P.S. I'm 63 years old and was using Rit dye for tie dye back in the 60s. How fun to rediscover this art supply from my childhood years. However, food coloring is way cheaper. Yay!

You totally rock. I'm a new sub and huge fan. Your tutorials are so well made. Love the National Geographic frottage technique and the great tip on the low cost Temu stencil pack and now THIS! I have never worked with alcohol inks because they are too expensive. This is game changing. Many thanks for your generosity and appreciation for your art process and video making skills!

Thank You Again!!!

Your tutorials are fantastic. I usually don't like the shorts format for tutorials bec. they are too hard (fast and usually chaotic) to follow. Yours are the exact opposite - broken down into clear, easy visual steps. Bravo and many thanks for sharing your process.

Thank You again!!!! I sometimes fear that mine are too long but I really just film as I’m doing it and it takes as long as it takes! If I could stop talking while doing I could fast forward more bits, but I always have things to say!!!! And ya know I watch hour long how to videos!! I throw in a short one now and then for the impatient ones!!!🤩
@GinaGreenleeАй бұрын
This is awesome. Such a clear tutorial for a short. I've been playing with silhouettes as a motif and so this is quite a discovery. Thank you!
@FunkAndDazzlesАй бұрын
Thank You❤️ I love doing these! If you have a steady hand for cutting (I do not) you could use hard plastic… like the big “cutting boards” At dollar tree that are 2 for $1.25… then the stencils wouldn’t bend up like they did on me a couple times! Or if I ever set up the cameo silhouette machine my friend gave me.. I could probably cut them out on there! But yes making the fun backgrounds and then masking them off is always so rewarding! PS I’m working on the same basic technique where I paint a bust layered patterned background on a whole canvas… then paint around simple figures shapes… I paint in the hands hair and faces leaving the exposed patterns as their clothing! It looks really cool!
@GinaGreenleeАй бұрын
You inspired me. Had tons - as in hundreds of free National Geo mags from the library - donated of course - and didn't want to use citrasolv that everyone seems to be using with them. Toxic chems. So when the algo served up your vid, man, I went RIGHT to Temu and snagged me some stencils! They arrived and they are fire and I just bought sanding sponges on Amazon and I'm ready to rock-n-roll, daddio! Thank you!

It’s my understanding that food color contains sugar. Wouldn’t that create some deterioration over time?
@FunkAndDazzlesАй бұрын
The ingredients on my packs don’t list sugar… they do list glycerine, but I guess it doesn’t act chemically the same as regular sugars. I know that food colour paintings and dyed egg shells have last for decades, so hopefully we’ll be okay!

Those stencils are wonderful, Marilyn is fantastic! You can spray a lo-tack adhesive on the back and let it dry well. If its still too sticky, push them on a pair of jeans, the lint will stic and the adhesive will be less sticky.
