Got rid of Windows when it balked at "activating" my fresh install because I had done it too many times. I bought the full Pro license for $200 a few years ago. Never installed it on more than the one machine. That was the final straw. I used the final install to download everything from OneDrive, and canceled my 1tb subscription to that, installed linux mint and will never use Windows again. I just bought a second computer that came with Windows. It never ran. I booted and installed Linux Mint. MS couldn't pay me to run their stuff ever again for many accumulated reasons. Never for any reason will their logo appear on my hardware.

Microsft is the best ad for linux. M$ is getting really creepy now. My hardware also wont let me leave windows as fast as i want either. I use joysticks and TrackIR 5 head tracking hardware. No linux drivers for those i dont think. I ordered a new mobo today. On the old AM 4 platform. It has 2 M2 slots so now i can keep windows for games only and all other personal stuff i can do on whatever linux distro i want to use. Not settles on one yet.

Fun fact. After Series 2 The BBC realised just how awful Robin Hood had become and as a result didn't bother to promote it much and shunted the finale just a few hours before to air to make way for tennis. (They hated it that much.)

11:41 a Tipp from me: the things that are really windows-only, can you run their tooling inside a windows-vm and USB forward the devices. Well it’s not ideal but would keep you from shifting back and forth. And some good virtualizations let you blend in, apps from the guest operating systems into your Linux environment so it looks at least like it’s a native app.

While it's true that linux nowadays is very suitable for gamers (it literally just takes installing steam and clicking one button. literally just this simple), it's a bit less so for anyone interested in mods. It can be done, and so far I'm yet to encounter something truly impossible to get working on linux, but it takes scouring through github and reddit pages, discord servers and requires quite in depth knowledge of using terminal commands and the inner workings of operating systems. I like the occasional challenge, but if you want to easily install and switch between mods for all your games, especially those less popular, then this is probably not the experience for you That being said, there's very little that genuinely can't be done and when in doubt, you can always run windows software through wine, and it's decently simple

I completely moved to Linux like 5 years ago. At work I use it on my laptop and on my webserver, privately on my Laptop, my Gaming PC and my home server. It's impossible for me to go back to Windows, which I used for the most time in my life. It has some issues, but Windows also has some issues. You have to use the terminal from time to time, but let's be honest, I also had to use the Windows shell from time to time. The only difference is the Linux shell is more powerful. But you find commands for all your problems online just like with cmd.exe or the Powershell on Windows. What I can recommend: Don't make half things. When you want to try out Linux, do it properly. Which means, migrate completely, with all your data, and don't give up on the first problems, use it for at least a year or so. Everything else makes no sense. It takes a bit time to adapt, to learn, to get into it, and without that, you don't get the benefits and the real experience. And regarding to hardware and drivers: Always lookup if hardware you want to buy has Linux support. There's always a product which has Linux support, and often, those are the better ones. If a manufacturer implements official Linux support, it really cares for the product and the customers. I'm a musician and some stuff did not work very well with Linux, but now all hardware I use has Linux support and man it's so much better. Linux has things like Pipewire or JACK which is so extremely powerful.

Same here! Inspired by LTT's de-googling videos (banned from YT), I've been gradually changing over. After watching many self hosting videos and trying ProxMox on an old Dell OptiPlex, I've landed on Unraid hosting Nextcloud, Immich, Calibre, and Audiobookshelf. Also switched my home network to UniFi with IDS/IPS and Teleport for easy remote access to my Unraid server. It's been a fun and not too expensive hobby. Now I just need to set up offsite backup. Cheers! 😁

I've switch to Linux (Ubunto) since 2018 from Mac user. I won't lie, I switch back and forth since there are some Apps in Mac that I need to use since I have other Apple devices. But, if there's a way that Apple will allow non-Apple devices to use their Apps, I'll celebrate! Also, thanks for mentioning security. Obviously, there's big arguments to why Windows or Apple is way better than other Linux distros and that's because they are big and they afford to hire best cyber security to safeguard their environment. Keep Linux community grow and please create more Linux-themed video/tutorials.

The conclusion I came to recently, after having to buy a win10 machine (i still have Win7 on two laptops but don't go online with them), is that I'm going to have to partition the Win10 system I just got, run the win programs on that and save it to thumbdrive and upload it from Linux once Win10 support is gone. Best of both worlds...I hope! I'll still be able to keep Win10 for some software and use Linux online. I hope! That's the gameplan anyway.

A few years ago I used Zorin on my 10+ year old laptop. The operating system did not load the right driver for the build in WiFi adapter so I had to use a command line workaround which was not ideal. I was sought of doing this many years ago on other Linux systems building software components via internet searches cut and paste etc. so I could use WiFi.

I have some questions not addressed in the video. Thanks in advance to anyone who might see and reply to this post :) 1) Does Linux use less hard drive space than Windows 10? I have a small SSD. 2) Does Linux run Adobe Photoshop 6? 3) Does Linux use less RAM than Windows 10? 4) Does Linux have a built-in anti-virus app like Windows Defender? 5) What browser works well in Linux?

Maybe I can help a little in answering. 1. Ya. Each distro in Linux has a different size. 2. Windows applications can be run on Linux using the help of "wine." However, it is usually less suitable, because sometimes it can error. 3. Of course, ram usage in linux tends to be lower than windows. It also depends on the desktop environment used. 4. Linux does not have a built-in antivirus like Windows with Windows Defender. 5. Firefox, chrome, edge, brave. I think they all work fine.

The only thing keeping me from maining Linux is that I have yet to find a distro or overall setup in which any audio fixes have worked for me, and because I haven’t found a solution to my fans not automatically adjusting to load. A huge part of the reason I haven’t found a solution to either of these things? Linux community generally writes their documentation poorly and with a lot of assumed knowledge on the part of the end user. Sorry, I haven’t really found the time to sit down and learn everything to know about GitHub, building applications, or finding obscure drivers sitting somewhere on Reddit from 7 years ago. Please just write instructions as if the end user is unfamiliar with the process and trying to learn. It’s not hard to assume everyone else is dumb or ignorant.

I wish more control engineers would point out the elephant for us and that is there is almost no compatibility for our software on Linux. I typically run Unitronics VisiLogic, UniLogic and U90 Series IDE. Now I have been playing with Arduino's PLC IDE. None of these have worked for me on Linux. All my C++ programming I do on my Linux machine but unfortunately at this time I am bound to Microsoft for the foreseeable future. I truly wish someone could either find a way to run these programs or someone had a compatibility layer that would work. I know many engineers who would fully transition in an instant if it wasn't for this. The gaming community is starting to get aid on their transition to Linux with the help of Steam and Proton compatibility layer. We industrial automation guys need to start voicing this more and perhaps we may start being heard. If any Linux Gurus out there can make the mentioned programs work, please please please let me know!

I have been slowly making the switch over to Linux. You should look into KVM and QEmu. If you have or can get a motherboard that supports 2 GPUs, or you are savvy enough to find and use a script that can swap back and forth as your launch your VM, you can setup a Windows VM with GPU passthrough. Besides some audio desync issues I see from time to time (obviously unfortunate for recording and editing, just need to be aware) it works nearly flawlessly 99% of the time. As long as you don't plan on playing any online required games with kernel anti-cheat. They will throw a fit if you use a VM, and many choose not to support Linux.

It doesn't have to be a binary choice. I have a Winbloze box for gaming and browsing, but I keep it on a separate physical network, along with all the IoT nodes. My 'real' computers, the Linux workstation and my NAS are on their own network, totally isolated from the sketchy crap. Even though it's isolated, I'm still not planning to move the Win10 box to Win11; the functional description of Recall sounds like an April Fools joke.

If you are able, keep one machine on Linux and another on Windows for those tasks that cannot be done on Linux - yet. Or dual boot - but then you have to shut down Linux in order to boot Windows. With machines you can pass files across your network.

You can still trust a company while using Linux. Fedora is kind of like that, it's sponsored by a huge company called RedHat which is kind of the "Microsoft" of the Linux world . Fedora I feel is the best distro for most people, but Mint is good too of course. RE:The DaVinci Resolve issues, Nobara which is a fork of Fedora comes with all the prepackaged ways to install DaVinci without any hassle. I had to tinker with nothing, it just worked when I installed it through Nobara. I ended up not using it because I have to pay for the codecs to work which is unbelievably dumb considering it works without any issue on the free version on Windows. I would rather just keep a Windows machine for video editing than do that personally, though kdenlive has not disappointed me yet. Render times maybe? Though I am doing 4k content and it's not that bad to be honest. I can still use my computer while it renders, which with Vegas on Windows I couldn't. It's also very easy to learn and it's actually free.

I have put Linux Mint on my elderly grandmother's computer and with a cronjob that just auto updates the packages without notification. It snaps, cleans out older snaps and updates the packages after a check with a -s flag. I was a _bit_ worried about this but so far I have had no complaints from her. I ask her about the computer and she just goes "Oh no, it works completely fine" and thanks me. She doesn't really install packages and she only uses Firefox anyways. I already installed whatever she needs aside from that which comes with Mint which is pretty much everything most need anyways. I will see how the system update goes which is not automated when that comes around. I told her I will help her with that process when it comes, but I don't think there will be any issue tbh, Mint is so stable.
