Lovely memories. I was on that boat trip on 27th June when we saw 022 catch the fish. We were able to watch him take it to the nest on the Live Stream. A magical day that was for us. 😊. Can’t wait for the new season to begin.

Ah the memories! The returns, the pole vault, the black plastic, the hatchings and fledglings and the dodgy landings, what a season. Well done to Alison and Brittany and the BOPH team. Fingers crossed they do it all again this year!

Finally had a quiet moment to watch the review of the year. Lovely resumé of all the happenings this year. Thank you BOPH for all the hard work you do for the success of this project. Looking forward to more excitement next year. 🙂

Great round up. Was there throughout, and was privileged to visit the nest site too. Fingers crossed that all return safely, including the unringed female where hopefully another male will bond with her in the area. Thanks to the BoPH team for all the work that goes into making this possible.

Would the unringed female have been able to find a nesting site and new mate in Poole Harbour?
@birdsofpooleharbour6 ай бұрын
Not as far as we know. Hopefully next year she will return and a male 374 that we are expecting back will pair up with the unringed bird or another female.

Don't rule out Beaky. She drops in every year to hang around, and she doesn't seem to have a mate. @@birdsofpooleharbour

What do those birds eat?
@tonym480 Жыл бұрын
Mostly nocturnal flying insects taken in flight. The Nightjar is a summer visitor to the UK.

@@tonym480 Wow! They must have a superb eyesight to be able to hunt flying insects at night.

How do they learn to fish for themselves?

I hope it's not a storm-damaged camera pole, as I doubt if that would be repaired with the birds in situ. What a violent and prolonged storm.

Where is this?
@4july992 жыл бұрын
It says in the channel name below the video Bob - Poole Harbour. It’s on the coast in Dorset. If you google Poole Harbour osprey project you’ll find lots of history. The hope is that this female who has been waiting for a mate for a number of years now, will finally breed this year as a male was showing an interest last year. so hoping he will arrive soon. That would be the first osprey breeding in the south of England for decades, not sure exactly but over 100 years I think.

Just wanted to tell you how incredibly useful this presentation has been to me. I’ve just returned from 31 years in California, where I was an experienced bird photographer, and feel like a beginner trying to ID British birds! I’m booked in for the harbour cruise on March 5th, so all this information will be a great help. Thank you so much.
