She has a lot of critics because she appropriated and posed as something she wasn't. But, this song can still be considered profound and worthy. It was probably first exposure for many to a lot of the shameful evil that we were never taught about.

Well race is a social construct. My mother is Italian and when she did her dna her ancestry came back partially that her ancestors are from the area now Iran/Iraq. The native Americans are a mixture of East Asia and Central Asia and some from west Asia. If you go back far enough in history, Buffy IS related to these native Americans!

The sounds the two of them just combined was really enjoyable, but I’m a little mystified why the toy was not an irritation. It had an entertaining rhythm or beat, but why ? Isn’t it random noise ? She seems not to be making any variations with her striking hand. Yet the toy resembles the sound of an intentional tap dancer.

Despise and deny who you are is quite hypocritical especially, when you consider she is a White New England Puritan whose fraternal grandparents were born in Italy! Honestly, Beverly Santamaria have you no conscience? In 1966, According to the Chicago Tribune, folk singers were paid $50 for 3 hours work, Beverly Santamaria was paid $2,000 per performance - her country tis of me was hitched to quite a cash cow by claiming to be Indigenous Canadian! The Order of Canada and a Commemorative postage stamp are just two accolades given to her by the Dominion of Canada!
@gregrobinette862010 ай бұрын
Dont capitalize white, black, red, or yellow when talking about race, dont say puritan becuz purity is not a problem its a necessity.
@tomaseire10 ай бұрын
@@gregrobinette8620 it’s a fact. B. Santamaria is of English Puritan ancestry on her maternal side, and her fraternal grandparents were Sicilian born. Beverley capitalises on, ‘White Christian,’ labels when she speaks of her biological parents - her ‘Adopted,’ family. Just have a good look at her and the fake tan. Quite the Oompa Loompa! She is neither indigenous nor Canadian and her adoption into a Canadian indigenous family does not make her what she says she is!

It's really phenomenal to me as somebody who has appreciated Buffy's art for many many years to see so many people dismiss them outright, as if they weren't a truly singular singer songwriter and stunning musician. My opinion on Buffy as a human being is so rooted in the soulfulness of her art, I can't imagine being so easily corralled to despise a person. She's a survivor of childhood abuse and I'm happy she found and raised her voice and applied it in such a powerful way. She didn't 'take away' opportunities from indigenous people, this racist culture and society did that, she found fame on the merit of her music, and no amount of dilettantes and ghouls piling on her at the direction of the god damned CBC of all entities can ever take away from her that she devoted her life to shining light on cultures and histories "North America" at that time and even now utterly denies.

@@sawyerstudio It truly amazes me that there are people like you that " out of your own selfishness " wants to still hold on to what you " want " to believe, because you don't want to give up it. She is an imposter. She has based her career on a fraud. The CBC made her in Canada. They promoted her all through her life. Now, you want to trash the CBC because they have exposed the truth. Do you know how embarassing that was for them and how hurtful it was to them knowing they supported maybe one of the biggest phonies in entertainment history. What Buffy has done is beyond disgust. But luckily she was exposed while she was still here and now knows that her legacy is now dust.

Buffy tells things that the powerful don't want you to know. This is behind the attempt to erase her with this Pretedian distraction. Don't be fooled by it. The big and powerful wish to cancel Buffy so that you don't have a voice that speaks truth to Power....Wake up people, don't be sheep. Don't allow someone you love and have admired for being a wonderful artist and bringing joy to this world because she identifies with Native Americans, whether it is true or not. I don't care if she identifies as a Martian. Don't allow her to be erased as the power manipulates the media to do. She has been adopted for decades now into an indigenous family, and they love her and is part of the indigenous community. If anything, this is a situation for the Native American community to sort out, not anyone else, especially not CBC.

Wow, so sad to see the great Pete Seeger taken in by this con artist. And let's face it, a white Italian American girl from New England with a second-rate singing voice was never going to make it in the rebel 60's folk scene. She needed to be an "authentic" voice of the oppressed for people to overlook her mediocrity as a performer. She overacts, the lyrics are overwritten, has a raspy, shrill, affected vibrato with fake native accent thrown in and skin-darkening makeup. But you have to admire the sheer audacity it took to pull this off, conning Pete Seeger right to his face no less.
