I think you should rethink how you rank Chevrons. They aren't Star Trek messaging. This is Stargate messaging. Star Trek gives you the answer. Stargate asks the questio and explores, but trust you to find the answers yourself.

you're a good guesser, Jeff. side note - as a lover of Stargate, I don't mind listening/relistening/rewatching ad nauseum, but I get torn on some of these episodes, debating whether I want to hear the aftershow discussion for free before I get to watch w you over on Patreon. For your purposes, I'm not sure there's a better approach, but on this side, waiting a week between hearing the opinion and having the contextual in-show reaction is often a bit frustrating. Just my opinion. 🙏🙏 Holy Hannah - love that you ventured into philosophy and Spinoza - and self-referential definitions within it all as a requirement that most don't think to consider. Universe vs mutliverse vs omniverse and can there be a 'shape' to it if you have to continue to ask, well what's outside that 'contained' shape?

How did I miss this? Catching up Have seen this series several times over and love it. Glad to hear your reviews as first timers. Being a Trekkie I had the same impressions because it was so new and I was glad it lasted 5 seasons.

Londo surrendering to his greatest fear, knowing it will destroy him: this is is fear of not being in control, and the fear of what others will do in his place. Londo surrenders his control in this episode, knowing the Drakh will do terrible things to his people, but also that if the Drakh are defeated, there will be Centauri like Vir who come after him who will be the ones in charge. Londo has to let go of the fear that nobody else will be able or willing to get things done for his people in the right way except himself. By allowing the keeper to take him over, he achieves this. He was already redeemed by the time he asked G'kar for that final favor 17 years later.

By the way, the keepers are an engineered species that were telepathically bonded to their Drakh controller. Any keeper that takes over another alien allows the Drakh to directly control them, see through their eyes, possibly even read some of their thoughts. While the Drakh through the keeper can directly cotnrol its victim, they for the most part are content to let their keeper-controlled puppets act independently so long as they make decisions that further the interests of the Drakh, or at least don't conflict with them. A keeper can be put to sleep for a while if the victim it controls becomes inebriated. The only way to permanently remove a keeper without killing the victim is by killing the Drakh who the keeper was originally bonded to. If you try to remove the keeper while the Drakh controller is still alive, the keeper will just grow back. Also, the Drakh controller can order the keeper to detach from the victim, and I believe they can choose to kill the victim during the detachment process or leave them alive. All of this is in the extended B5 background lore that JMS wrote about.

In this episode I love the way Londo faces the Drakh and refuses to cower or beg or bow down, even as his keeper takes hold of him. He was already a slave to his duty as a Centauri in a sense, so being physically enslaved didn't frighten him. He stood tall and proud and sneered with defiance even as his own body was being hijacked for the rest of his life.

Where were the nukes? they used them to get the Vorlon's and Shadow's attention at Coriana 6, what are you talking about?? Also yeah 1 nuke, after being face raped with info, from the Vorlons who built it, on how to destroy it. He learned that the shield had a vulnerability, that it would make a hole in the back if it had to protect the front from enough attacks, learned how to enter it, and where to put the nuke for the best effect/total destruction.. come on, that was very clear.

What an episode to finally be caught up to you guys on! As someone who actually DID start with "In the Beginning" it was very interesting to see you speculate on how it would have been to start there. I was 13 watching with my father and I was HOOKED! In answer to your question about reruns, yes. They were airing Seasons 1-4 episodes 5 nights a week at 7pm, plus a new episode weekly at 8... I want to say Wendsday? So I was watching Season 5 at the same time as the first 4 seasons. Simultaneously super confused, super spoiled and yet also super captivated. My wedding dress is basically Delenn's white dress from Attonement. We left the Altar to a live guitar cover of the Season 5 Opening credits (where the music picks up after "Get the hell out of our galaxy!") I had a beta fish in college name Lecococ ("A small fish, and also the pleasure you get from meeting someone for the first time!") And it ALL started for me with this movie.

Dude, the 5th race (the 4 races) are not just about being technologically advanced, the 4 races were mentioned (sort of) in The Torment of Tantalus, it is not a spoiler to state that the goa'uld have never been one of those 5 races, SG1 HAS met SOME of these special races, but it's not every tom, dick, and harry with a phasing device

When the reporter says Ivanova's name wrong, watch Ivanova's lips. She DOES correct her, but it's been muted out. :D I often use this episode to introduce friends to B5, because it has some action and gets them all caught up, and I know Season 1 isn't great. Once they see this one and know where it's going, then I take them to the beginning.
