There's no rumour about flea and this pedal, there's a whole video (I think it's from the flea & Chad's educational video) where flea explains he likes this pedal because it's basically real funky sound and he "takes this sound" from bootsy Collins.

Replace V2 with a 12DW7. The stage pushing the clean channel is like the 12AX7. The stage pushing the drive channel has much less output and make the drive and overdrive channels very useful. I rarely use the clean channel anymore.

The ''b'' designation doesn't usually have anything to do with being used with the bass or having a blend knob. It just designates it as a newer version.
