As much as I’ve idolized this video for 30 years, I still wish the monkey wasn’t used. The video would’ve been still perfect without those mere seconds of footage that was actually put through the Final Cut. Poor baby didn’t need to be put through all of that. The beating dead heart, Trent licking the breast-shaped microphone, Trent floating, and Trent plying the piano at the end are what have been burned into my brain for decades.

In all fairness, the monkey was fed plenty of bananas for compensation during the music video’s production (treated well by it’s handlers). The pig carcass was probably the worst thing about it, it stank like hell.

It’s embarrassing how the fans still try to defend so bad that the monkey was okay and blah blah 😂 the monkey looks so uncomfortable and is still wrong to tie a monkey like that and so unnatural. Is still animal cruelty like it or not, you can see how the monkey wants to be liberated so bad. Tying like that an animal for that time and just for a music video is still fcked up

Brilliant work, and clearly hard work. All of this stuff is so hard and time consuming. Most people have no clue the sacrifices made. That whole era had some amazing music and videos at a level you just won’t see ever again.

I don’t know anything about trainings monkeys, but it seems the trainer couldn’t get his monkey to listen to him most of the time? It also seems they got frustrated and handled her more roughly :(
