Cory I hate to see an engine go like that. This is the reason I switched to forged pistons instead of cast on the old style SBC engines. I busted a stock piston with 9 lbs of boost and decided never again. I don't know if the Nascar parts (pistons) will fit these LS engines but that's what I used on budget builds. Good stuff.

The new motor will be forged everything

One thing with those stock intakes under boost they don’t distribute very evenly so it’s possible that cylinder was leaner. The boost you had it on is a good bit for a stock bottom end if the ring gap was on the tight side definitely check the gap on the other cylinders see where they are.
@CoryBrown2 ай бұрын
I looked at the gap on cylinder 1 and it was .021 top ring and .026 bottom. I found some other interesting things I'll make a video about soon
@LynnTwinCustoms5132 ай бұрын
@@CoryBrown .021 on the top is a little tight for higher boost. I usually do .028 top and .030 second if I’m gonna be getting after it on SBE stuff
@CoryBrown2 ай бұрын
@LynnTwinCustoms513 it is but it's way better then what I've seen other people have. I've heard of some people having .012 to .015 gaps on these motors
@LynnTwinCustoms5132 ай бұрын
@@CoryBrown That is true! Sometimes they just let go, could be a combination of things. Be waiting to see a video on your findings and the new engine build!

That style timing tensioner is trash. Every gen4 engine I have pulled apart with that style tensioner they were broken. Was the engine still in time when you took it apart?
@CoryBrown2 ай бұрын
Yeah it was. Even with 3 missing teeth on the cam sprocket.
@jjjjjj92842 ай бұрын
Exactly they are dog shit tensioners, I've seem atleast 30-40 of them broken....I've seen when those tensioners let go they destroy the bottom end like that ..I do think that tensioner has let go and definitely contributed to the failure...7-8 do run a tad leaner..Ring land may have let go , but I'd be pointing more towards that tensioner letting go causing it...Snap the chain ?
@CoryBrown2 ай бұрын
@jjjjjj9284 did not snap the chain. And was still in time. Sucks because this motor had decent ring gaps from factory actually. Could have lasted a long time if it wasn't for this problem
@jjjjjj92842 ай бұрын
@CoryBrown ok , you never know that little bit of metal you found on the previous oil change left bits over who knows...It sux especially with those ring gaps ...

Doing an on3 kit on my c6 right now. Is there anything major you ran into while running this kit? Are you on a boost controller or spring?
@CoryBrown2 ай бұрын
Only issue is figuring out how to do a good cooling system. And I'm using a boost controller controlled by MaxxECU

Sorry for the very late reply. But the car is fully back together but I lost all the footage from my go pro so I never uploaded it. I've also been very busy with work trying to get some stuff payed off so I can put more money into the car. I'm hoping to get back to uploading more videos soon.
