Dear Madam, I am from India. I am 50 years old, height 170 cms & weight 73 kgs. 4 months back I felt discomfort/ palpitations and SOB while I climbing stairs. I met local Pulmonologist and he advised to have a PFT test. The results are as follows: FVC found 2.87 against prediction 3.71. FEV1 found 2.33 against prediction 3.04. in both parameters percentage prediction is 77%. Ratio of FEV1/FVC found 0.810 against prediction 0.814, 99 % against prediction. Post BDR test results changes are as follows 14 % increase in FVC, 16% increase in FEV1 and 2% increase in ratio of FEV1/FVC. May you explain 1) whether is it Restrictive or obstructive pulmonary disease? 2) Is BDR with corticosteroid is beneficial for me? 3) May regular exercise like triflow exercise, Incentive Spirometer exercise, Diaphragm exercises, pursued Lip exercises, Ballon Blowing exercises, Water bubbling exercise as well as pranayam may be effective exercises to have positive results? With thanks and best regards: Sukhendu Bhattacharjee

Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.... I want to thank you for the videos as they have been very helpful in my respiratory improvement.... just over two years ago I was on 6 litres of oxygen and expected to live only a few more months due to stage 4 lung cancer and copd... now I am ambulatory, active and off oxygen, I even do 300 crunches a day... I will never forget how helpful you have been... you will always have a special place in my heart...🎄🎅🎄

Hi, will using a spirometer improve the peak flow reading?
@BreatheBetterwithElizabeth9 күн бұрын
That’s a good question. It may improve your technique which could improve the peak flow number, but the peak flow is measuring air FLOW breathing out and the Incentive Spirometer is measuring a VOLUME of air breathing in, so not really. Does that make sense? Also, the peak
@srmahaffy8 күн бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, thank you so much for your quick reply. Your reply makes sense in regard to the exhale versus inhale. Is there anything that improves the peak flow number? I’m asking as I have allergy related asthma, and my background is I was on Advair HFA inhalers/ albuterol for about 25 yrs, BUT have been off all medication since 2018 after our family dog passed away. (Now no pets, which will remain that way). My breathing has been fine. No wheezing or coughing and feel good. However, I recently went to an allergist to see about a rash I get on my stomach if I take ibuprofen or some OTC allergy medicine or DayQuil (to manage occasional cold symptoms or if I will be visiting a home where there is a cat or dog). In seeing the allergist, she did a lung function test, and my numbers were very low, and she wants me to go back on Advair ( or generic). My lung function tests, and peak flow numbers have always been low even when my asthma was controlled. I’m now in my mid 60s and feel torn to go back on Advair because of the side effects and because I feel very good. Thanks in advance.

@@srmahaffyhonestly, the addition of an inhaler with a corticosteroid will help. It will take about 3 weeks, but that’s the only thing that will treat the underlying inflammation.

Thank you so much for your replies Elizabeth. I’ve started back on my inhaler medication.

Holy crap. You are either in my grandparents old house, or an exact duplicate of it, which is unlikely considering it was a custom build. Small space to your left, an office beside it, then the master bedroom, two rooms and a bathroom upstairs, deck outside that door leaving the kitchen, bathroom just behind you, garage to your right... Have not seen that house since my grandmother passed away 11 years ago. Also, thanks for the info, have some goop I can't seem to get rid of.

Should nebulizer treatment be done before or after using inhalers (Advair, etc)?
@BreatheBetterwithElizabeth11 күн бұрын
It really depends on what the medications are. Meds with a short acting ingredient (SABA) should be taken first.

we do this after nebulization or after N-AC intake with patients who can tolerate it. The amount of phlegm they expel is unbelievable. Very helpful for patients who are having a hard time submitting a sputum specimen.
