I have a lot of Sulky polyester from when I used to applique more. I'm using them up doing a queen size Kantha method quilt on my machine.

Love 5" squares. Is the binding from yardage or made from joined squares?

Empty spools are great for winding bias tape on. Lori Holt does this with her small amount of bias she uses for applique.

I remember the old wood spools. My grandpa would make us little cars out of them with a rubber band to wind it up with 😊 the leftover thread was wrapped up for emergency repairs and for knotting the quilts together.

Great idea😊 I use my small amounts of thread to hand sew my binding.

doesn't' the thread get in a mess inside the bobbin case????
@margaretderen20823 күн бұрын
It certainly could. Some machines would be fine but others may not. I follow Bernina, Baby Lock, and Handiquilter groups and just last week a tech for one of them advised against it. I’m sorry, I don’t recall which group it was, but I would suspect Bernina.

When my spool has just a dab of thread left, I place it in a small pouch that is used to collect those spools. When I need a bit for hand sewing/mending/sewing on a button etc. it is handy.

I wouldn’t put short lengths on a bobbin. I just use them up from the spool. They can be used for hand stitching.
@margaretderen20823 күн бұрын
Agree. Some machines would not appreciate short bobbin threads…worst case scenario and all.

Thank you for this. I plan to make a quilt by sandwiching cotton batting/wadding between a whole fabric piece on top (i.e. no blocks or pieces) and a whole fabric under using the star stitch to secure. Do you think this would work? I don't plan to do any other over stitching as you show on your Angels. Would it not be better to use quilting thread rather than DMC 2 strands so the thread lies better?
