Thank you Mr. Feldmann. I've been trying to figure out how to play this for some time. I didn't know which tuning Skip James used to record it. I'm thrilled that it's in Open G because that is what my guitar is tuned to.

No. I get the vocals in as soon as possible. I learn a section and add the vocals in a “talk sing” fashion as I continue to learn the song. The vocals help play the guitar part.

so I've been struggling for years to learn the chris thomas king variant of this song and I just in the past couple weeks discovered the proper tuning and starting putting together some of the licks... now you've given me something to think about with this wonderful tutorial of the Skip James version. now I have to figure out how to integrate both of them.

I had the privilege of jamming with Mance around 1970 at Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Tx. He was walking across campus with a guitar case and I approached him and found out he was booked to play later that day and since I always had my guitar with me I invited him to jam. So we went into the stairwell of the student center and kicked out the blues for an hour or so. Truely a golden moment.
