While the 48-215 was being designed in Detroit , Australia was designing their own car called Holden's project 2008. This Australian prototype was rejected by GM.

I built a gold XT GT tribute with 347 stroker, took me ten years to build mainly sourcing parts from all over the world…hubcaps and steering wheel from from the US, repro Lucas driving lights from from the UK. Stupidly swapped it for 2017 GT Mustang with 1500k’s on it, seemed like a good deal at the time, sure miss my XT now though.

We had a white VN in our family for 15 years! Bought ours ex gov in 1992. In think it had 50,000 kms on it, someone fairly low like that. Very simple, comfortable cars, we had very few issues with ours, water pump went out not long after we bought it and the points went about 10 years after that. Other than that, totally reliable, even if you had to flick the fuel gauge for it to work as a standard feature of each VN since new! Okay, there were some bad aspects of the car, paint and build quality were just okay (unless you got a Friday special!), interior looked cheap and tatty, especially the seats which looked old fast, the crappy panel that fell down on the driver's legs (held up by 2 plastic "screws" and prayer), the fact the windows used to have water in the inside (bad rubber around the c pillars), and the taillights doubled as fishtanks. The steering was nice and direct, but too light and that massive steering wheel was silly! The car was also pretty unsafe in inexperienced hands. With good tires and driven carefully, it was okay (very carefully the wet), the ride was very comfy but handing pretty bad (not Cadillac bad, but half way there) and the rear end was absolutely lethal in the hands of P-platers with cheap tires in the wet. Remember, no esc/abs, and agricultural live rear axle and no independent rear suspension.

I bought a heavily neglected VY commodore S2 Acclaim to replace my Skoda Fabia VRS 2012 that started to get a rod knock at 107000k... I have adored this damn thing (ok fuel usage violates my wallet) but like man, I have such a strong nostalgia with these things. And like, if you love restoring cars, these things are stupidly cheap to restore to mint, but parts are seriously starting to get harder to find. ok so like no car is perfect lol and perhaps this is all the shit I've had to fix in it. Replaced front + back brake pads + brake fluid flush, Fixed broken inteiror lid on the dash. Replaced broken aerial, removed bad tint, flushed powerstreering, replaced plugs, coils, leads, oil, oil filter, air filter. Fuel filter, fuel pump, front left door actuator, installed a tow bar, degreased engine, replaced heater tap, wiper blades, diff oil, air temp sensor, throttle position sensor, cam shaft sensor, front r wheel hub Next: fuel regulator, drive belt tensioner, front l wheel hub. and replace the rear window cause I'm a brainlet and cut through some of the demisters.

I’m sure I saw this car at Lakeside in 1985-1986. It was the best sounding car there. I went to my accountant that week and told him what I had experienced and he said, “come downstairs I have one”

Why Holden went away from the rb at the last min and fitted the V6 in just madness..Japan's performance and reliability was way in front of anything Australia had..imagine if Holden went with the iz and 1uz package.. look at the celsior compared to anything Australia had.. I mean at the end for both Holden and ford they folded from products that was just junk

Its hard to take away the achievements of johnson and this car, but what spoils it for me is the hypocrisy. Johnson famously incited the hatred of the skylines. He was a loud critic and no doubt pushed for 'success ballast' to be applied to the gibson GT-R's. So the gibson team had weight added and boost restrictions applied in an attempt to limit the HP. Meanwhile, dick openly talks about the enormous power outputs of his cars from exactly the same methods. high boost turbocharching. He had the fastest sierra's in the world and then cry's about the skylines because they were the only cars that could beat him. He was happy flogging the rest of the field with near 700hp, but when someone else can beat him oh no. Thats not allowed. He still does it today. A few years ago he got 888 penalised for a slight wheel rotation when coming off the jacks in the pits. He actually has members of his team watching competitors pits to see where they can jump up and get them penalised to hand DJR a victory. Meanwhile at bathurst he gets his number 2 man to deliberately hold up the field before safety car release and qualifies his number 1 man on an illegal engine. Sours it for me unfortunately.

I have just picked up a 98 s model. Coming from the UK driving little capacity motors due to fuel cost and tax, being able to jump in a 3.8 V6 and actually enjoy it without sweating over the tax or fuel cost (although it still surprises me how thirsty she is) is such a great feeling. I absolutely love it.

Those 4 speed top loading Borg Warner gear box, gear sticks were a night mare. That bloody nylon ball that the stick swiveled on, would crack really easily, a pain the arts. But for that donk it was a close ratio and gave very impressive performance off the make.

They could once Telstars were Imports from Japan made part of Broadmeadows Home of the V8 from late 1987 onwards. We had to make to initially with Mustangs and later Sierras till 1992.The odd part was the medium ford that was raced at Bathurst was not available to regular people at the dealers as everything below Falcons till about just over 2 decades ago in passengers cars came from Mazda in the eighties and most of the nineties.
