have you ever tried sitting the kayak's seat towards the inside of the car so you will get less of a windbag? I have tossed and tied my paddleboard in between my two J hooks. any thoughts about putting the kayaks facing in?

One thing you gotta be careful of tho is when you toss the buckle over the top of the boat it doesn't hit the window! It happened to me just on the very top edge and within 2 hours developed into a huge crack

🚩 You weren't watching (Not that I believe you would would notice or care even when seen lol) when tightening the first strap as the buckle should have been positioned away from the boat surface and Not touching it at all ...especially if it's Not (and yours wasn't) a plastic/rubber coated buckle then it will surely eat into and damage the kayak or at the very least get it all scratched-up in an bad area‼️

I never use front and back straps when transporting. While they are useful as a backup fail safe should one of your main straps fail, they offer zero advantage to securing the kayak. A better solution I have found while transporting two J racks is to loop the straps through to the opposite J rack. You now have four contacts and the ENTIRE system is way more secure. Both J racks now are secured together with 4 point bracing.

Wow. you left two straps hanging loose. ? I never trust a built in strap on bow or stern of any boat. That bow strap is fine to carry the boat, but using it to tie down a boat or have high tension from 65mph wind will stress it. I tie a loop around the bow and pull back until tight, one on stern pulled forward so the cannoy come off. These are tied to straps protruding from under the hood. If t tie downs on min part of kayak com o, that tie down on the bow will neverold the kayak in high wind at 60 mph.

@TammyMartinBLUE
@TammyMartinBLUE 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should do one? A Wing paddle is pretty useless except going in a straight line forward. It requires technic & wasn't really appropriate for a short into to paddles
@garyvanremortel5218
@garyvanremortel5218 4 жыл бұрын
@@TammyMartinBLUE That is a myth that doesn't withstand scrutiny. We use nothing but wing paddles. A wing paddle properly deployed is an excellent device. It does require a certain degree of finesse, I would agree. There are plenty of videos out there that show the proper technique, but I was still surprised that they weren't even mentioned. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3OqpIx3qZ1nhqs

My straps were way too long for one kayak, I trimmed the end off, tied these 2 remaining bits into 2 loops with a big figure-eight knot, and just jam the knot under the hood with the loop jutting up outside to attach the front tie-down, or under the trunk lid/hatchback to tie to the stern. Works a treat, costs nothing, saves some trash.

@kevinshort3943

Narrow and long blades allow efficient paddling with a low style, useful if you are paddling into wind on a long trip. Short fat ones are for where power is needed or a nice high stroke can be used (the most efficient), such as slalom, polo and playboating. Choose these where you need efficiency, power and acceleration, while not having to fight against the elements. Wings are something different, with a different paddle stroke.
