thank you for making such a good video. I'm 19 years old and I own a 2001 chevy Silverado and my transmission went out on me when I was coming home one day and I didn't know what to do so I started looking on how to rebuild a 4L60E transmission and I came across your video at first I was hesitant about rebuilding a transmission but by watching your video you gave me the confidence to rebuild my transmission I had never seen the inside of a transmission before so I ordered a stage 2 master rebuild kit I also ordered the reamer and the piston cause they needed to be replaced and I followed your video step by step and got everything installed into my transmission and got it all put together and installed today and it runs like a dream now thank you very much

Cutting the bed is the only way to do this job so easy and quick and without running the risk of breaking those plastic fuel lines. One note the purple wire is fuel gauge sending unit, the gray wire is fuel pump 12v and if you look closely there are two different size black wires, the bigger one is fuel pump ground wire and the smaller one is unit ground. I did mine in about 30 minutes including cutting the hole. 1991 silverado ext. cab short bed.

I curious what caused the head gasket leak in the first place. Is it possible the heads are warped or??? How do you know what to do once you got it apart. Just clean it and put it back together? All the videos I've watched on Chevy 5.3 Vortec the mechanic just slaps it back together with new gaskets like "that's it, all done"!. So did GM just make crappy gaskets is that why they are blowin". What should I be looking for to actually fix the problem.
@dudewecanfixit2 күн бұрын
I always bring the heads to a machine shop to get checked and resurfaced. The original issue (usually overheating) needs to be addressed at the same time. GM head gaskets are just fine.

@5:33 Sir, could you tell, what is an approximate weight of that door? I've heard it is about 40-45 lbs, but my husband thinks it is about 120 lbs. We have 2009 Nissan Sentra, the door looks the same. Thank you for you film again, so many details, like that inner socket disconnected from inside. I saw another film where one person was holding the door in his arms while the author was disconnecting that socket. Your way is much more convenient.

I saw you were holding it overhead, but see different people can do different things. Great video man. I am trying to tackle this job myself for the first time in an '04 Escalade ESV. Dealer quoted me almost 6,000 to replace the trans in a vehicle I paid $3,100 for. I couldn't believe it. I have always wanted a car lift at my house so I used this as my "excuse" to buy the lift. $6,000 for the trans versus $400 for used rebuilt trans on marketplace plus about $6,000 for the 2 post lift and 24x20 concrete pad installation. Figured I was getting a "free" lift if I did the trans myself lol. We'll see how it goes. Props to you doing it on the ground.
@dudewecanfixit3 күн бұрын
That's a great way to look at it! 🤣 I can swap a transmission on the ground in a day. Surely, the lift will help with that. Be careful, the transmission is heavy and having it up in the air can be dangerous without the right help or tools. Other than that, it will be much easier to work on! 1 day labor for $6000 slab and lift? I think you made the right choice!
@SkinnySkinch3 күн бұрын
@@dudewecanfixit Yeah I was worried about that. I was thinking about buying a transmission jack from harbor freight. But I have a few dirt bike/motorcycle scissor lifts that I think are 400 lb weight limit. has a nice wide flat rubber top Was thinking that may work. Worst case I can lower the lift down once all the works done and use some floor jacks to finish lowering the trans down then just lift the truck back up on the lift. I noticed I have quite a bit more crap to take off with this AWD Escalade.

The easiest way to remove a back door with one person is to open it , disconnect the door catch and wire harness, shut the door , open the front door so you can undo the bolts on the back door while it's CLOSED , after that everything should be undone so you can grab the door from one side and open the door while holding the handle and it won't fall If you're removing a front door I would suggest using a floor jack with a rag on it so you don't take any paint off the bottom of the door, undo the door catch, wire harness, the bottom 2 bolts and the very top bolt leaving the 2nd bolt from the top last , while you're undoing the very last bolt put a hand on the top of the door so it doesn't fall off If you're in a junkyard that doesn't allow jacks , take the fender off and undo everything like I said to do for the back door
@dudewecanfixit19 күн бұрын
That's a good method for doing it with one person!

Your comment is priceless. We went to the junk yard w/my husband and they don't allow jacks. And actually the door is sitting kind of high, since they put cars on tall support (old wheels and smth else on the bottom), so I even don't know if the jack would help. I was afraid to let my husband to hold that door, since unknown weight, and that door is sitting kind of high. We decided to come back w/a step ladder to support that door. But your method (w/removing the fender 1st) is so much better, I think. Thank you very much.

The older models have two springs the new mode like mine has one. Another big difference is the pump o-ring. Mine has been changed and the o-ring is no longer in a groove in the pump, the groove has been done away with and they moved the o-ring to the case.
