I would not trim the mustache over the lip, it is better to train it the way you want it to grow. That way it gets even fuller and more impressive. If you train the mustache right, you can get it to look how you want with out trimming, rather just wax and styling. That way you don't thin out your mustache more than you need to. If you have an important meeting like a job interview, trimming the strays is a good idea. Also if you are competing, it can be good to trim the strays for the competition.
