In addition, unless of you're grinding railroad ties, the 1 HP motor is ridiculous for most woodworking projects. As designed, the single phase motor spins at 1725 RPM and can't be slowed. It's difficult to get your work piece on and off the spindle before it's all chewed up. Both my brother and I used it just once and we hated it. I had to pull the motor out and toss it into the trash. I bought a 3 phase 3/4 HP, Baldor motor. With an adapter mounting plate and a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), I can vary the speed from a dead stop to 1725 RPM. It's not right to spend good money on something and have to re-engineer so that it functions.
