Quick question. Do you know what day would be the best to go Railfanning on the Blue Ridge District? I tried to ask many other Railfans about this place, but I never gotten a response.
@CosmicDonutАй бұрын
@newenglandproductions3071 I'm not super familiar with traffic up there, but any day should be fine. The problem is when you're on the blue ridge, some traffic gets routed via the altavista. And the opposite is true too. I recommend railfanning the two end points. Being Roanoke and Crewe

Conrail perfected that with their “Helperlink.” NS equipped these ACUs with them after all the Helperlink SD49-2s were eventually retired/reassigned.

Wasn’t the line dead just because of the fact that it was the holidays because I’m pretty sure normally this line is very active with all kinds of traffic
@CosmicDonut9 ай бұрын
Unfortunately no. There are less than half the trains there used to be since PSR.
@thekays3859 ай бұрын
@@CosmicDonut Well unfortunately the same is true in many places like the CSX A line in this state. Not sure if you’ve heard but the S line from Raleigh to Richmond is getting major renovations and will be ready around 2030 with new Amtrak’s and more Freight traffic so that’s certainly a plus!
@carparkingmultiplayer1mobi6759 ай бұрын
I thought the point of a they're being a engine in between the train cars like this was to make this not happen lol
@louisianagator959 ай бұрын
You're thinking distributed power. On certain steeper grades the railroads will have "helper" units that get behind the train and provide some extra power for getting up the grade, but once the train gets past a certain point, the extra power isn't needed anymore, so the helper units uncouple and go back down to help the next train.
