The only reason the plumber used "fixed copper pipe" was to make sure the homeowner in the future would have to call a plumber to replace the water heater. This is one of the simplest things a homeowner can do and for this reason it should be installed using Shark Bite Braided Stainless Steel flexible fittings, they even make a set for this purpose with a built-in gate valve. Shark Bite is a proven product that has been in service for decades without any failure issues, plumbers will contradict that for the aforementioned reason. It's unfortunate that this homeowner fell for it. BTW sweated "copper" pipe can fail due to corrosion.

Since you have an upper line for your shutoff switch, might have beeen benificial to install on that line to allow the fluid to go straight into the drip pan then exit through the out line. OR adjust the fluid to a more frequant schedule of injection. I would have liked to see you reasemble the pipes without blowing them clear first. Then run the last amount of extream fluid to see if it would remove loosen any of the gell-slim. Would have been an interesting test.

@allamericandiy1310Ай бұрын
An expansion tank. It prevents excessive water pressure from building up and potentially causing damage.
@TheWilferchАй бұрын
Your expansion tank is mounted and located exactly as the pro plumber who did my original 50 gal PRO series Rheem heater in my new home. When it came time to replace the anode.....did the normal checks...yep....no issue....I have enough vertical pull-up length allowance to my ceiling....so went ahead and ordered a full length ( 40" long), new anode from Rheem. When I tried to replace the unit......argghhh..... the expansion tank WIDTH was JUST enough TOO Wide ( by about 1-2")....above the anode pull-out port. Had to resort buying the "Sausage-link" anode design, that instead has those segmented 12" lengths all connected together. Yeah.....pro install.....thanks for thinking this through..... :(

@outofspecboating69852 ай бұрын
Just installed my iFlo two weeks ago. My issue with install was the weight of sending unit and bottle was too great to hold onto the air handler with the 3M tape they jnclude with holder. Had to Jerry rig it up in attic with cable ties. Here’s hoping that the solution helps keep the condensate line clear.
@outofspecboating69852 ай бұрын
Just installed this. One big problem is that the unit that releases the liquid + the weight of the bottle are too much for the sticky holder ( 3m sticky) that attaches to your air handler. I had to Jerry rig mine using cable ties to hold the weight of the bottle and the unit. Definitely need a better way to hold unit and bottle weight.

Thank you for this review. My air handler is in the garage and in the summer it gets incredibly hot. We are in SE FL. My ac guys just put a new drain line in that just runs from the air handler to the front of the garage - a straight shot. The old one went under the slab and out the side of the house and has been there probably since the house was built in the mid 70's. We were constantly having problems. I just want an extra insurance policy and thought this might help. I will give it a try and see how it goes. Thank you again for taking the time to help others.

Same situation and location. The air handler should never be in the garage in SE FL. I installed the iFLO in the summer. I was blowing out the lines every 2 weeks in peak AC season. What I found is the location of the nozzle at the junction of the pan and the drain outlet was that the solution really didn't treat the pan before draining out. My drain line was relatively clear but the pan remained full of snot causing an overflow. I ended up drilling out the back of the unit farthest from the drain and ran the iFlo tube through a grommet at that location. The unit doesn't run as much now but I'm hoping that my change will reduce the problem come summer. We'll see...
@lindaianace755923 күн бұрын
@@dreamcenter56 After watching the videos on placement of the tube I was actually wondering if any would get into the pan or if it would all just flow out of the drain. I haven't bought the kit yet, but now I will. Your solution seems like a good idea to make sure the product gets into the pan where the snot is. Thanks for the tip!!

I installed a Tee on my drain line and 2 quarter turn valves. The valves are on either side of the Tee. The Tee is my high point vent on the line. I block in the drain side of the Tee. I then remove the cap on the high point vent and pour in 16 oz solution of 50-50 bleach and water letting is sit for 2-3 minutes. I then open the drain line and watch the liquid flow down the drain. I then refill with 16 oz of water 2 times to flush. If either side is plugged I use my shop vac to clear the drain side then the A/C side through the high point vent. let me know if you need a picture or drawing.

When was the last time your AC drain line clogged and drain pan overflowed? A clogged drain line won't shut down your AC. Iflow is just a drain line cleaner. You can use bleach to clean the drain line. Most of the time drain lines don't really clog. If you don't have access to the AC drain pan then Iflow could be an option but it is expensive. If you do install Iflow and run out of the cleaner just fill the bottle with bleach.

There are opinions out there that bleach is too strong an acid and may result in dissolving of the cement used for your PVC drain lines. A vinegar/water solution may be worth a try. Best wishes.

Going on vacation. If I want to turn off my tank, do I just close that top valve? And then turn off my water main?
@allamericandiy13105 ай бұрын
If you’re wanting to shut the tank off, you could just turn off the breaker. That means you won’t have hot water when you get home until you turn the breaker back on and wait for the water to heat back up though. I guess it depends on how long you’re going on vacation. I leave mine on so the water stays hot. That will prevent me from waiting until the tank heats the 50 gallons of water in it. I wouldn’t turn off the valves though….
@sarawright67815 ай бұрын
@@allamericandiy1310 thank you. I'll be gone for about a week. Is the breaker located inside one of those panels on the front of the tank?
@allamericandiy13105 ай бұрын
No…those panels on the front of the tank are where the heating elements are. Definitely don’t touch those. Your breaker would be located inside your home’s circuit breaker box. But if you’re only going away for a week, there’s no need to turn it off…
@spitzer11135 ай бұрын
The majority of clogs will happen in the trap since that is where condensate water sits for long periods of time. You would be better to buy and install an EZ Trap. It comes with a brush that you can use to easily clean out the trap occasionally. They are only like $15-$20 and you won’t have to buy refills. They also have a version with a shutoff switch built in to shut the unit down in the event that a clog does happen. That will at least prevent a massive water overflow issue.
