Many "stacked funds" are not objectively better (and in many ways inferior) to a simple 2X levered index (e.g. SSO). Tell me I'm wrong.

I may have missed it, but is there a reason you didn't study look back periods longer than 1 year (252 days)? Especially the data from post 2008 looks like it is heavily weighting the very long time periods. I've heard some trend followers discussing using periods longer than a year recently. I'd be very curious to see what the graph looks like if you include time frames closer to 15 or even 18 months. Are you concerned about just capturing more of the market drift and less trend? Or, accidentally weighting more toward equity/bond than you'd like?

What if interest rates were in the teens, such as in the 1980s? Wouldn't that increase the appeal of cash and bonds versus stocks? Was the expected return on stocks higher than those yields? Or was there a negative equity risk premium?

Hey Return Stacked/ReSolved - please comment/discuss (in future pod maybe) regarding "stacked fund" volatility - some of these funds are swinging way too violently both ways.

Is there a way to show how well RSSB is tracking the 100:100 exposure? I have a lot of RSSB, but I am wondering if I should move more of my NTSX into it.

Are there any other futures based alternatives asset strategies? That have no or little correlation to stocks, bonds, trend, and carry? Just curious. 4 is probably more than enough but you said you can get 10% vol with stocks, bonds, carry, and trend. Are there 5 things we could stack in portfolios? Ray dalio mentioned 15-20 but I am not sure if that is actually beneficial or just hedge funds trying to justify 5% average fees.
@savusilviu
@savusilviu Ай бұрын
Ray has 15 to 20 assets not strategy or asset classes. I run a 50ish low beta etf port with vol carry on those underlyings but that is because I use a ton of leverage. For no leverage you should go to max 20 holdings diversified into stocks, bonds, managed futures & commodities. Gold is also a good diversifier

@@savusilviu I have learned about many new strategies that return stacked could used and plans to potentially one day offer. Such as optimized commodity merger arb, and seasonality. As far as negative correlations to the S&P during corrections nothing seems to beat managed futures. Combining something like RSST with 50% managed features generates a beta of 0.07 but market like consensus future returns and historical returns. I have spent months building optimizer programs to optimize my families charity hedge fund and 50% managed futures is what we ended up going with. Much like Meb Fabers Trinity portfolios.

I do miss a comment about Gold being the 2nd diversifier after Bonds, prior to Commodities and prior to adding Trend and Carry as many investors hold the metal in our portfolios. How will Gold work in this All Terrain? Will it add too much volatility if 1/n?

Is there any way to know ahead of time if a year-end dividend will be declared? I am an offshore investor subject to 30% witholding tax, so I would like to avoid getting dividends, so likely sell the RS ETFs before ex-Div date and repurchase afterwards.

I like your ETFs and they are becoming an integral part of my portfolio. Is there any way to know when and how much dividends will be paid? I'm a non US investor and would like to avoid dividends by selling the fund before ex-D date so I don't have pay a hefty 30% withholding tax (effectively making the ETF very expensive). I will then buy it back the day after to maintain my weights. But if I knew dividend will be $0 then I wouldn't need to trade at all. Congrats on growing the assets and I hope to see it prosper.

Since you asked, here's what I'd like to see: 100% Multifactor Global Equities + 100% Managed Futures. Even something like 80% Multifactor equities + 100% Managed Futures would be amazing. Looking for value, momentum, and low vol. Maybe team up with Pim Van Vliet and use his Conservative Formula?

I am excited about the managed future space, but until 'indexes" (or synthetic indexes) become more prominent and fees come down, even when looking to hedge, ER's north of 100 basis points are going to scare me and I think many more like me.

I believe a layup that could be created would be an all in one product that replicates the “Hedgefundie” strategy of 50/50 UPRO/TMF. While the strategy requires manual rebalancing, a single solution that automates the process would be incredible.

Great recap. I would love to see managed futures stacked with factor weighted equity, like US SCV + MF, US Momentum + MF and the international versions. You might not like this, but I'd also love to have equities plus another MF strategy, like SPY + DBMF. I know you guys are good, but single manager risk still worries me.

I am pretty sure in order to stack factor equity you need a derivative instrument that is liquid enough to be managed cheaply. AFAIK no such derivative exists for factor equity. If we get a factor equity future or swap provider that could do that would be useful.
