Bud , just a suggestion , it works for me , drop a plumb bob off each side of the striker to the shop floor and mark the concrete floor . As long as you arent moving the car you have an exact placement. Just my way of doing it

Wow, nice ride!!! That thing is amazingly quiet! Got any video of it at the track? Christ, just watching that run at the end there, you spent 4.5 seconds of that run going sideways!! ROFL!! That thing has got to be in the 10's as is, no doubt about it!! Get it to hook and book, and she's there!!
@stuartbontrager2 ай бұрын
Haha working on that now! Hopefully with a good set of shocks up front I can get it to work better, and I know I could leave a little softer which may also help.

Fantastic build, looks like every wrench turned was to = FUN ! Dragstrip pass certainly demonstrates that outcome! Really like the clean simple fuel system, what type of fittings and line(?) they look like some kind of clampless push lock(?)
@stuartbontrager2 ай бұрын
@@steveweiman4708 Thanks, that’s exactly what my goal was. I built it to take a beating and have a good time doing it. The fuel line is Parker Push-Lok with Fragola AN fittings. Super easy to work with.

That gap at 4.20 is meant to be like that - there is a rubber gasket that goes in there - I was going to make one out of rubber or something. My gap looks the same as yours. Good job otherwise thanks for your video. I cut my hole out too big - especially inside the car. Oops. :-).
@stuartbontrager7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I ended up using some expanding foam to fill it. It was a little hard to see but the rubber was already installed in the video and it still had a gap. It all worked out though.

Stuart, thank you for spearheading a first ever KZbin video on a full A-pillar replacement. You were correct, no one made an attempt to video a full replacement, but there are only patch repair videos until now. I too am beginning to embark on such a project due to previous accident damage at the driver's side A-Pillar. The seller I bought my 57 from also gave me a complete firewall clip that includes the A-pillars. His intent was to cut the pillar out and graft into the damaged pillar. Now that I see you located a new complete A-pillar I will acquire that and avoid likely additional rust repairs on the donor pillar. Thanks again.

Thanks! Glad it is helpful. I’ve been pretty quiet on KZbin lately but intend to do a walk around on the car here soon and provide an update. Short story is it’s on the road though!

How hard was it .I’m looking to do the same thing.
@stuartbontrager Жыл бұрын
Well, it's likely more stressful than it is actually hard to do. I recommend bracing whatever is left of the A pillar to the dash as well as the floor as I did. 'When the A pillar is removed, the dash is free floating on that side so it can change in relation to everything, but the replacement panel pulls it back into alignment pretty well. Still, bracing is good so you know it doesn't move at all. Just takes some common sense and lots of patience.

Did you use the the brand real steel or golden star I think you said

I'm pretty sure I used Real Deal Steel

How does the door fit now? I am facing the same issue, entire pillar messed up from side impact.
@stuartbontrager Жыл бұрын
It fits about like it did before. There is a big gap along the top edge where it meets up with the cowl, but it had that before also. I haven't hung the door permanently, only test fit. Been working on other things lately.

Where is part 2? Is there welds on the lower cowl to a pillar?

Sorry, it's been super busy, but part 2 is now done. I just need to edit it and get it posted. Hopefully I can do that this week.

Mine was rotted at the bottoms of the A and B pillars. I fabricated repair panels it's too much money buying those they're crazy with the prices.
@stuartbontrager2 жыл бұрын
I'm not replacing the passenger side this way. I'll be fabbing up patch panels for that one since it's not quite as rusty as this side was.

I feel your pain looking good. I just got a 55 that somebody replaced the floor halves. All the braces are rotted the car came with all the new braces and inner and outer rockers. Spring is gonna be a fun time replacing all those parts.

I made a patch panel on a 72 Nova lower fender 24 years ago. Right now it has a small bubble in it. Doesn’t look bad. Lasted a long time. I was a mechanic not a body man.

Question: does cutting rust out COMPLETELY and patching with sheet metal stop rust permanently?
@stuartbontrager3 жыл бұрын
Well, that’s the hope. If you do manage to get it all cut out and replaced, then paint it up so the new stuff is sealed, it will last a long time. It could still rust eventually, it’s metal afterall, but should last longer then the original because most cars didn’t have any paint on the backside of the sheet metal anyway.
