You can see my family’s car pass by in this video. I remember I was just 11, and the most scared I had been in my life. We were driving down to South Carolina for vacation. First time ever my family drove up from CT down through North Carolina was on this very day.

Wow! It sounded like you were so close to it! (Yes. I can listen to this, and I can say that being totally blind does have one advantage; I couldn't see it!) Sometimes, there is an advantage to that, especially when it sounds so close, and you still had to remain calm. I've lived through two tornadoes, and I hope I don't find myself having to go through another one, but if I do, I hope, by the grace of God, I can live to tell about it. I also hope I can save a life.

Having lived in North Carolina this day was definitely something different and scary because I remember in the 2000’s it used to be extremely rare for a tornado to form in North Carolina and it wasn’t a very clearly defined funnel like that, now it seems that every storm that comes through is capable of producing at least one tornado

Sooo, I was always told to get your butt up under the overpass if a tornado is doing what this one just did.Is that not the case? Google, I guess is what is about to happen here at my house.

This one looks like it was rain soaked. That is when they are most dangerous, IMO. You don't realize it's there usually until it's too late. Then there was the massive Tri-State Twister on March 18, 1925.

This is nothing compared to North Georgia.. just 11 days after this (April 27th, 2011) one of Georgia's worst tornado outbreaks, and possibly the worst in the US struck the southeast. 4 Tornadoes were rated EF5 one in Mississippi was strong enough to rip a 2 foot deep trail of dirt out of the ground and scoured concrete from roadways. 324 people were killed throughout the outbreak and April 27th had the most recorded tornadoes in a single day. I was in the high risk area and came very close to being hit by an EF4.

Doesn't matter, if you're that close to one, it's something no matter where you are. I lived in Louisville, KY during the April 3, 1974 Super Outbreak and lived very near the EF-4 that went through Pekin and Henryville, IN in March 2012.
